If Faux News had been around during the Civil War I wonder if O'Really and Slant Head's shows would look like this...

Well...I don't know that they would have been supporting the Union back then. They'd probably have thrown in with the Confederacy.

Oh, they are smarter than that. They'd have known that the end of slavery would one day lead to someone of Barack Obama's color becoming president.

Political critics in the US were much harsher back than. It may be hard to believe today but President Lincoln was very unpopular and the criticism he faced from the opposition Democrats (and his own Repubilican party) was absolutely scathing.

It wasn't until after he was assassinated and the Funeral train toured the country that President Lincoln became recognized as one of the great U.S. Presidents.
