So, there's something I've noticed recently. Fox News went all widescreen, but when I see it shown through a non-HD format, it's letterboxed, not anamorphic. MSNBC, from some clips I've seen, broadcasts in widescreen, but places onscreen graphics in a way it can be cropped for standard TVs or non-HD broadcasts. Fox News on the other hand, seems to place its graphics closer to either side of the screen, making any cropping look horrible if attempted. Therefore, viewers who don't get HD braodcasts are forced to look at this matted letterbox image, even if they have a widescreen TV (but no HD). Fox News really should have thought things through when they went to this format.
I should also note I may not be commenting on this wwith 100% accuracy, as I own a widescreen HDTV, but I do not yet have an HDTV reciever. Also my provider is Dish Network. Also, I'm not bashing the widescreen format, I love widescreen. But for news I don't think it's that necessary. One benefit about having it on Fox News is the blankness in the space of the black bars rivals that of the pundits' minds.
