First, according to published news reports, NBC has sent Tom Brokaw to "make peace" with the McCain campaign, which has its knickers in a twist over the "unfair" treatment it claims it has received from MSNBC. And Brokaw admits in a number of newspapers that he considers McCain "a friend." So why don't I see the righties all upset that a biased person is moderating a debate, the way they were soooo outraged over Gwen Ifill's alleged bias the other night?
Now, last night, I saw Brian Williams on the David Letterman show, and it was a breath-taking reminder that far from liberal, the majority of NBC and MSNBC commentators and anchors are identifiably (and often publicly) conservative. Williams seems to believe that because of Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, Sarah Palin won't talk to him.

Brian spent much of his time on Dave's show relentlessly defending Sarah Palin, which is certainly his right and he's entitled to say he thinks she was impressive. But in the end, it was Brian's final remarks that I found rather scary-- Dave asked who Brian thought would win the election, and Brian launched into rightie talking points about how the Bush administration has kept us safe (!), and he then suggested that rather than wanting change (and Obama), voters might get into the voting booth and remember that they need to feel safe... and they would then vote for McCain. Excuse me??? So here we have a news anchor from a major network reminding us that we haven't been attacked since 9/11 and saying in essence that, of course, things could change if we have (gasp) the wrong president. Is that gonna be the strategy they use-- terrify everyone? It worked in 2004... could it work again?
SO let's sum up. Righties say MSNBC and NBC are liberal because these networks have TWO identifiable liberal voices, even though those two are surrounded by Brokaw, Williams, Gregory, Morning Joe, Buchanan, Mitchell, and so many more. Two liberals-- bad. Ten conservatives-- good. I'm horribly confused.
