Yep, when Reagan was elected, I saw what I believed in slipping away, and then in 1994, my low point, the end of the FDR era for good, when the Republicans took over Congress. I felt that progressive values would never again be in front in my lifetime. Luckily, the Republican era is now over, destroyed by their own corruption in record time, and the worst President in history.
The level of disaster for the party - and more importantly, to the philosophy of modern conservatism - is quite comparable to the 1932 elections, the beginning of the FDR era.
The Reagan era is over, dead as a doornail. Conservatism will join communism on the trash heap of history, a dead and discarded political philosophy.
You guys are trying to put a good face on it, but you KNOW you are one month away from the end of your era, where all you'll be able to do now is sit on the sidelines, whining about the Dems, but not being able to do anything about it.
The Obama era will begin. It will be like no other. Discarding the selfish egocentric viewpoints of the right, we will build a country that believes in the power of Americans to work together to goals that help everyone, and bring a lasting peace instead of constant total war.
It's tough to go through this, no doubt about it. You'll see that liberal philosophies work, and it will drive you nuts, just as it did the conservatives of the thirties, forties and fifties.
You'll likely never see a conservative government in the United States in your lifetime.
Get used to it.
