Although the fate of tonight's presidential debate in Mississippi remains very much up in the air, John McCain has apparently already won it -- if you believe an Internet ad an astute reader spotted next to this piece in the online edition of the Wall Street Journal this morning.

"McCain Wins Debate!" declares the ad which features a headshot of a smiling McCain with an American flag background. Another ad spotted by our eagle-eyed observer featured a quote from McCain campaign manager Rick Davis declaring: "McCain won the debate-- hands down."

The ad may have run too soon????? Hey, mistakes happen! I tend to think that this may be a bit of satire, even though I wouldn't put it past the McCain campaign to put something out there, with its obvious disdain for the average American's ability to discern that the debate has not yet taken place....

Obama should make a comment about this as part of his opening statement...

"...I guess we don't need to continue with the debate since my opponent has already been running ad's claiming victory...even before he decided to attend...

...he has a picture of the ad that he just teasingly waves...and shrugs his shoulders...

His camp did make a response.

Already declaring victory before the debate has even started, in ads running on the Wall Street Journal website, John McCain meets Barack Obama tonight to debate foreign policy - McCain's professed area of expertise.

I think it was a DELIBERATE release.
NOT an accidental one.

They get the press either way.
It shows the image - either way. Look at the posts here.

It reinforces the lie they want to present.
For those people too distracted to actually WATCH the debate!

EVEN the snarky responses - SHOW the PICTURE they WANT to PRESENT.

You are correct.
It needed to be made fun of in the middle of that debate.
________

Y'know. That Palin picture in your sig ain't bad.
I have to wonder: is she naked in it?

She sure doesn't look ANYTHING like that today!
The bloom is off the rose.

NOW she'd better BE smart. Ooooops. Guess not.

Yes, we have no bananas!
This was as good as anyone could have expected McCain to perform.

Other than adults manage to make OCCASIONAL eye contact, instead of pretending to talk ABOUT the
person in the room as though they are not there. Not very "maverick-y" & tough. Not normal.

To fail to make at least sporadic eye contact, is seen in the animal world as avoiding confrontation.
Ceding territory to their betters! Accepting a subordinate role.

Does McCain have another "playing beyond his ability" left?
He lost by even conservative accounts.

How can he work with people or work in a bipartisan manner when he doesn't make eye contact? When people don't look me in the eyes, even if only briefly, especially when I'm standing next to them, makes me mistrust them or judge them as unsure, shy, (men=weak). . .the podiums were far enough away that even extended eye contact wouldn't breach the other's space. . .McCain's body language made it seem he was afraid he'd get beat with the ugly stick. BTW, McCain said horsesh*t under his breath twice during the debate. 4:30 in. If Obama pushes him enough, he may explode during the next debate.

I think McCain thought he was really going to win the debate. Mccain seems to believe is own hype a little too much these days.

Anyway.

A new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll shows 46% of people who watched Friday night's presidential debate say Democrat Barack Obama did a better job than Republican John McCain; 34% said McCain did better.

Actually, in the animal kingdom, not making eye contact is being submissive. Watch wolves (PBS Nature) and how they interact. The dominate male runs the pack. When he's challenged and he wins, the other males will drop their eyes.

We have thus established McCain is no "Alpha Male!"

This works for people too, after a fashion.
There is a give & take behavior which normally socialized people have. Even in strong interactions.
Especially, in strong interactions.

There is something socially fractured about people who do either extreme.

(For the other extreme, Anyone noticed that Michelle Bachmann? She sits wide-eye glare with a rigor mortis grin
the whole time she is on camera on any program. I think they have her on to scare young kids to bed:
"if you don't watch out, Michelle Bachmann will get you!")

Maybe now McCain is Amish & this is a shunning? laugh.gif

I read part of a study last nite that claimed lack of eye contact helps students give better answers since looking at someone's face takes a lot of energy. laugh.gif ANOTHER example of McCain's inability to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Obama scored even better -- 52%-35% -- when debate-watchers were asked which candidate offered the best proposals for change to solve the country’s problems.

More than six in 10 people or 63% in the one-day poll, taken Saturday, said they watched the first faceoff in Oxford, Miss. For those 701 people, the margin of error was +/- 4 percentage points.

Do you wonder?:
  • Where that remaining 20% went?
    .
  • What kind of thing were people looking for that that still didn't score it?
    .
  • On what basis anyone thought McCain "won?"

Granted the undecideds should not be given more opportunity to be indecisive & waffle.

Wouldn't it have been better to have 5 categories of preference, than "won" or "lost?"
So we knew who was swayed significantly in that procrastinating 20%.

After all, we are going to get "won" & "lost" polls from here until the election anyway.
