Biden gaffed on the physical disability of someone he didn't already know and was clearly not easily visible to him when he made the remark; his staff should have clued him in. I've known people with disabilities that are not immediately visible, like a deaf coworker who people would start to talk to. It happens; they don't get bent out of shape at unintentional gaffes.

How about John McCain? How does he treat an individual in a wheelchair?

As I wrote in another thread, "Stand up Chuck" is currently the best metaphor I can think of for the momentum of the Obama/Biden ticket. Palin is using these two as third base right now.

The title is also grammatically misleading. The thread author meant to accuse Biden of attacking the handicapped, but instead accuses him of attacking the handicap itself.

Maybe he isn't a dunce. Maybe he had been drinking. I've heard that he never drinks; but I'm wondering if he started. Maybe he's on medication?

I'm wondering if he will be off the ticket soon. He gave us a hint of this when he said Hillary was as qualified as he, perhaps more qualified, to be VP and that she might make a better candidate. Maybe the pressure is too much. He's more accustomed to wielding power in a lower profile situation.

From his appearance in Beaver, Pennsylvania, I'd guess he was drinking on the campaign trail. I don't like to accuse people of such things; but he is slurring his words and getting his facts mixed up. Beaver was the first campaign stop after the convention, wasn't it? I believe so, if I recall events right. If he was drinking that day, perhaps he got a grip on himself and stopped. He sounded coherent enough when telling us that Hillary might have been a better pick.

So I wonder if he had been drinking when he told a man in a wheelchair to stand up. It's a serious question. Barack and Michelle appear to be smiling nervously as they stand there on the porch in Beaver by Biden.

And Biden get the facts confused at that event in Beaver. Was he lying, exaggerating, or drunk? He didn't know Governor Casey and Senator Casey when he lived in Scranton. He couldn't have. He got the difference in ages wrong. Governor Casey was 10 years older than Biden, and Senator Casey is 18 years younger. It is also known that the Biden family moved to Delaware when Joe was 10. So they would have moved in 1952 or 1953; and Senator Casey was born in 1960.

I don't know, of course, but it wouldn't surprise me if Biden "resigns" from the ticket. I could be wrong in even thinking he was drinking. Perhaps he's on medication of some sort that was affecting him, or perhaps he didn't get enough sleep. And perhaps he thinks Hillary would make a better candidate because she could counter Palin better.

I believe Biden should resign from the ticket but unfortunately for Obama, it's sink or swim with Joe. If Joe leaves, people will look at Obama's first "executive decision" and think "hmmm, he couldn't even get THAT right? Nah....not ready for primetime." Biden is a fine guy but he's boring and I mean boring like no other candidate Obama could have chosen. Biden makes Chris Dodd look exciting.

Obama passed on 18 million "sure things" to pick Biden and it could very well have been the prick in his balloon. As much as I want McCain to win, had Obama gone with Clinton or even Wesley Clark; McCain would have lost for sure. Obama, if he loses in November, will learn a valuable lesson in politics.
