Full Version: Oprah says NO to Palin

Oprah Winfrey refuses to interview the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket. Oprah's staff is divided on the merits of booking Sarah Palin. Most members of Oprah's staff want Sarah Palin on the show because she would attract big TV ratings. Oprah's website is flooded with requests to put her on, but Oprah is against it because she endorses Obama. Some of Oprah's staff are warning a Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash from lots of women. It is not clear if Oprah has softened her position after watching Palin's historic convention speech. Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Oprah invites bigoted Bill O'Reilly on her show, so why not Palin?

I absolutely detest Caribou Barbie, but I think she should go Oprah's show since it's apparent that Palin won't be interviewed by the press.

My dream scenario would be for O to bring Palin out. Applause. Then Amy Goodman should appear from the wings and O will introduce Palin to Goodman and O leaves the set while she says, "I'll let you two girls chat."

It would be hilarious to watch an irate Sarah put Amy in a headlock, perform a citizen's arrest then turn her over to the Minnesota police.

I'm no Oprah fan or viewer, but I think this is much ado about nothing at this point. She endorsed Obama months back and IIRC, vowed not to have politicians on her show until after the election. Oprah's show is primarily entertainment - it's not like a Sunday morning news show is refusing to have on one of the candidates.

Jeezee.

This was rumor mongoring by Extra.

Oprah made a pledge that she wouldn't use her show to push her own political agenda. She has said that Obama, McCain, Palin, and Biden are all welcome to come on the show after the election.

This is what you get from the Right these days. Whupppaaa! Victim stance. I love the last line of this.

Oprah Denies Shutting Out Palin
By Jay Allbritton

According to Fox News, Oprah Winfrey is pushing back on a report posted today on The Drudge Report that she strongly opposes booking Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin. "There has been absolutely no discussion," Winfrey said via press release, "about having Sarah Palin on my show." Winfrey reiterated that when she publicly endorsed Barack Obama (on the Larry King Show) she made a decision not to have any guests on her own show that would use it "as a platform". Winfrey expressed interest in having Palin on after the campaign.

Senator Obama appeared on the show twice, both appearances coming before he announced his intent to run for the presidency. The issue, however, is largely a moot point since the McCain campaign has turned down all requests for an interview with Palin.

The RW even complains when they don't get invitations they would turn down.

And Oprah is doing the right thing by not using her show to promote for either candidate. Kudos to her.
