TUESDAY NITE CONVENTION RATINGS:

FOXNEWS 6,179,000
NBC 4,468,000
CNN 3,220,000
ABC 3,098,000
CBS 2,928,000
MSNBC 1,590,000

Fox News is annihilating the competition. MSNBC is in the toilet. Keith Olbermann was hired to bring TV ratings and credibility to the MSNBC cable network. He has been an abject unmitigated disaster.
kennethjkranz
and if i remeber correctly the dem convention was won by cnn...sooooooo. who primarily watches FixedNews?
Maxx61
MSNBC's ratings for the convention are down primarily because people are now realizing they have become the laughing stock for the "place for politics" ever since Tim sadly left us. Olbermann can't make a comment following a speech without some snide snippet of irrelevance and Matthews is getting more and more like he's going to rip off his microphone, walk over to Keith, and punch him in the face himself.

However, it's sort of fun watching the network implode.
dportjoe
eality is that GOPers don't believe anything if it aint FOX so they'll watch it-no one has ratings for C-0Span i bet they topped Dem viewers because ther is no commentary untilevery one speaks-me I'm on Sattelite at woprk so I watch on
BBC America.
BrytEydBelle
I think it is because it is the DNC. I choose not to watch, if I want to deal with alternate realities, I'd watch something enjoyable. I think that when the regular shows come back, ratings will return to normal. I, for one, am breathlessly awaiting the show of the fabulous Rachel Maddow.
Onlythetruth
First off, no brain dead Repubrobates will watch MSNBC under any circumstances because they call out the Repubs all the time. Olberman is quite pointed in his criticisms and so anyone drinking the kool aid is going to go to the Fox Propaganda channel to be given more kool aid. No Dems are going to waste their time watching the All Hate All the Time convention anyways, so the core audience for MSNBC took the week off. Of more striking note is the fact that Obama by himself was seen by 38 million + viewers (plus the C-Span and Internet audiences). Want to bet that McSame cannot draw 1/2 that number??
Izzzatso
Those number neglect people like me that have neither cable or satellite. They neglect those that watch on PBS or stream CSpan online.
BluesOutbackHusssein
mentally deficient people watch Fux News. So what?
dportjoe
One major difference this time around vs DNC-after/before every big moment at DNC we got wonks from both parties anaylizing-anyone got a count of Dmes on CNN or MSNBC being allowed to comment/discet? Seems to me its zip

Does FoxNews go out to the same number of televisions as MSNBC? The reason I ask, is that network shows long ago basically reached market saturation as far as "broadcast" is concerned, and each network reached basically all homes. Nowadays, some cable companies don't offer MSNBC, and at the hotel where I work they carry Fox, but not CNN or MSNBC.

Is Fox getting those viewers on a level playing field, or are they on three times as many cable/dish systems?

Excuse me, but why is this an attack on Keith? MSNBC would probably not get huge numbers during the RNC. Most of us lefties don't wanna listen to 4 nights of rightie spin, lies, false claims, etc. MSNBC did very nicely during the DNC, and in the 10 pm hour, they were ahead of Fox. And overall, MSNBC's numbers are up big-time from where they were even a year ago.

Meanwhile, my concern is all the media gushing over how wonderful Sarah Palin is, and how she's gonna energize the righties. My fear is that we'll get 4 more years of reactionary right wing dictatorship, which means say goodbye to reproductive rights, the teaching of science, and other things that matter. Are people really buying this crap? scratchhead.gif

Unfortunately, some will buy it, but that's inevitable. Some people will buy anything. Witness the phenomenon of the infomercial.

I think the enthusiasm on the left dwarfs what we saw in 2004, in 2000, or even back in the 90's. I've never seen this much excitement about a Democratic candidate. I think McCain is boring; he's the (large portion) potatoes to Palin's (tiny portion) red meat on the GOP plate. No veggies, naturally.

So the question becomes, will Americans choose McPotato or Obamahouse steak as the main course?

If Fox is outdistancing MSNBC by almost 5 to 1 in ratings, it tells me they are more motivated to watch THEIR convention than you folks were your own. Especially since MSNBC is now seen by Democrats as their "unofficial" Obama network.

Hmmmmm, thats 21,483,000 total viewers on the Repukes best night.

The Democratic convention was seen in an average of 22.5 million households.

For Obama night:
CNN 8,100,000
ABC 6,600,000
NBC 6,100,000
CBS 4,700.000
Fox 4,200.000
MSNBC 4,100,000

Or 38,000,000 viewers.

I'll note here that the on McShame 10pm night the "broadcast" audience decreased in the 10pm time slot from the 9pm time while on Obama night the audience increased in the 10pm time over the 9pm time slot. People were tuning out McShame while people were tuning in Obama.

In the latest head-to-head numbers between Olbermann and BillO, Keith was leading in the most desirable demographics. While BillO continued to lead in the "65 to dead" age bracket.

Among the broadcast networks, NBC led with 5.98 million viewers, ABC followed with 4.76 million, and CBS had 3.82 million. A comparison with 2004 is difficult because the broadcast networks did not cover the second night of the Democratic convention that year.

Among the cable news networks, CNN again led the competition, averaging 4.80 million viewers from 10 to 11 p.m. Fox News delivered 3.48 million and MSNBC netted 2.57 million. All three cable news networks are up significantly compared with 2004.

I'm truly sorry, but I didn't watch a minute of the RNC. I had no urge to learn something new, and my instincts were proved correct. Same old, same old.
Did I want to see/hear Sarah Palin? I think I've quite enough of her, thank you.
That's just the way I see things and if one more male poster tells me what a "hottie" Sarah Palin is, I might well explode.
This board is full of really beautiful women - facially, physically - who have been "moms" and presidents of a PTA. There's something to be said for being a "big fish in a little pond." Nobody seems to care that she garnered 10% of the total population vote, or 18% of the total eligible voters. It's all about what a swell woman this is. She hunts and fishes and probably plays musical instruments and dances. How could we possibly do anything better?
Time to stop the crap! I'm so very tired of this line of thinking - this line of posting....

MSNBC pulls plug on Olbermann:
After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage. Executives at the channel’s parent company, NBC Universal, had high hopes for MSNBC’s coverage of the political conventions. Instead, the coverage frequently descended into on-air squabbles between the anchors, embarrassing some workers at NBC’s news division, and quite possibly alienating viewers. Although MSNBC nearly doubled its total audience compared with the 2004 conventions, its competitive position did not improve, as it remained in last place among the broadcast and cable news networks. In prime time, the channel averaged 2.2 million viewers during the Democratic convention and 1.7 million viewers during the Republican convention.

Wrong. The category you probably should be referring to is the 25-54 category, as marked by Nielsen. THIS is the category that is most important, not the 18-29. Ask anyone in the business.

For your information and to return this thread to accuracy, here was last Friday's results as compiled by Nielsen.
O'Reilly 25-54 1138
Olbermann 25-54 549

O'Reilly total viewers 4151
Olbermann total viewers 1726

IOW, O'Reilly is kicking Olbermann's arse down the hall and out the door. I gather you must of thought the one or two weeks Keith won that age demographic speaks for the entire year.

How about a normal night, like Tuesday, which is the most RECENT that TV NEWSER shows. It's always good to go to your links, as we realize the lies quickly. Last Tuesday? BillO 731, Olberman 509. Not quite the trouncing you tried to say.

Why do you believe 18-29 is the most desirable?
Wouldn't an older demographic be more desirable like one that spends money on the commercials?
The only thing I would believe a 18 year old demographic is good for is to "shape" ones mind (also known as brain washing)

I bet you could have made a similar case with other variables in any television decade.

The overriding aspect of demographics you have overlooked is how those 18-29 year olds always seem to grow up and mature into that 65 to DEAD category. This was happening before television became a reality and there is no indication that people have stopped growing up. It's a rare old buzzard that holds onto his immature youthful and unwise political and social views.

Most desirable? Why? Because they vote???????????? Right... rolleyes.gif

And dare we mention that C-Span doesn't track in this silly game? And PBS doesn't track, either?
There are very good reasons why people chose to watch the conventions on PBS or C-Span, not the least of which is their total lack of punditry!!!!
There are people in this country who prefer to watch and listen and then come to their own conclusions. This seems to be lost upon the MSM, who actually believe that if they weren't telling us what we just saw, or what we just heard, we'd be totally clueless.
This sort of rating system effectively closes out the many of us (millions of us?) who chose to turn off the pundits and just chose to watch and listen for ourselves....
