There is a man doing life in prison in Colorado for the rape and murder of 2 girls one I believe was 13 the other pre teen. His name is Alan Yerkey if you care to look it up. One of the girls mother was a reformed achohal-drug user that had become a born again Christian and was working in the mail room for focus on the family. After her daughter was murdered she missed alot of work not only for the trial, but because her teenage daughter was raped and murdered, and she was having trouble coping with the situation. Focus on the family offered her a one time one hour consuling session. Aftrer which she continued to miss work so not only did they fire her, they made it sound as if they were doing her a favor by doing so. Last I heard she was living in her van. The leaders and founders of Focus on the family are Atheists getting rich promoting a God they don't believe in. [In my opinion] I know alot of you don't believe in God, Heavan, or Hell, but all three are very real and I have no doubt that someday those folks from Focus will be rewarded according to thier merits.

I agree. Sad, sad story. It's why EVERYONE needs a union, so someone can stand up and advocate for the worker in such a situation.

Having said that, I truly don't mean to hijack your thread, but back in the shop, we had a guy who's child died, and we made sure the company gave them the time off they needed to cope, and we helped him and his family get counseling, and made sure it was paid for by the company. Keeping a job in those situations are very important. I'm PROUD of being in a union for that and other reasons.

Groups like Focus on the Family don't worship God, they worship money, and they are all getting rich from human suffering. Any of the groups that have gotten involved in politics have left the worship of God they were formed for.

Atheists? Maybe, maybe not. Agnostics?
The "Holy" are pretty good about lining their pockets without any help.

I've been to a few revivals. They love telling you the more you buy, the holier you will be.
Just not in those words.

But a kleenex Oral Roberts cried into. Buy Peter Popoff's Miracle Manna.
Then there are vials of Holy Eyewash you can buy. Perhaps the raindrops Focus on the Family prayed for?

Karl Rove is an Atheist. Are you on to something there?

Is Karl Rove an atheist? He's definitely godless, but how did you learn of the atheist angle? I've never heard of him being a member or proponent of any one religious group - just whatever one he can best use to sow the seeds of discord, so you might be entirely correct on this one.
And Glen, that's a terrible story! This is probably as good an example of some of these so-called pro-life groups being totally disinterested in life-after-birth as any. This poor woman must have gone through hell on earth. I can't imagine the pain of losing a child to a rapist-murderer - it's hard enough to lose a child to illness or auto accidents. It takes a long time to fully bounce back (if ever you thoroughly do).
I'm convinced that had she been working for any religious group, of any denomination, she would have received a lot more help and consideration.
It's not about religion; it's about the self-focus of groups like this who obviously stand to gain financially from pushing their "Family Values" agenda.
BTW: Is there any way that those of us so inclined could help this woman?

As a pastor, my opinion of Focus on the Family is that they are a political organization using religious language and ideology to manipulate people rather than a religious organization seeking to influence government. I haven't heard much on their radio show that I would consider Christian dialogue. It's religious to be sure, but their religion has more to do with neocon ideology than Christian theology.
