A trio of leading Western Democrats portrayed Republican John McCain on Thursday as a senator out of touch with his home state of Arizona and the rest of the West.

Assailing his Westerner credentials, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano said the presumptive Republican presidential nominee was not on top of the issues his constituents care about.

“Sen. McCain may be the senator from Arizona, but he’s not of Arizona,” Napolitano said. “He’s really a Washington, D.C., guy who has a Senate seat from Arizona.”

QUOTE
Napolitano acknowledged that it would be a challenge for Obama to take McCain’s home state, where a pair of recent polls has given McCain a lead of 6 to 10 percentage points. But the Democratic governor of Arizona touted new voter registration numbers as a sign that Republicans might have to defend Arizona this fall.

McCain has an ~11% lead in his home state at this time which has held fairly steady since April of this year, but several other western states that border Arizona are either leaning Obama or are showing a slight lead for him at this time. Of course things probably will change over the next 2+ months but things are looking pretty good in a lot of swing states at this time.

Remember Arizona soundly defeated the republican's Gay Marriage ban attempt.

Never going to happen. Not as long as the state is, politically, run by the Mormons. We have the largest Mormon population outside of Utah.

McCain won't lose Az. But the next time he runs for his Senate seat, I predict he'll have some tough sledding...IF the Dems put up a good candidate against him

Real Clear Politics just moved Arizona into the toss up catagory today, so don't bet the farm on it!

What? Oh well, if I'm wrong and McCain does lose Az...Well, I'm sure I'll find SOME way to cope with my disappointment.

CNN downgrades McCain's home state from "safe McCain" to "leans McCain."

The network also moves North Dakota from "leans McCain" into the "toss-up" category. The Obama camp announced today that he's going on the air in both states, plus Georgia.

I dont know what they are called but you have to bring your own crayolas and color in the picture of the one you wat to vote for.

Actually, they are the ones where you draw the black line and connect the arrows.

We did have the punch ones a few years ago like the ones that had the hanging chads in Florida in 2000.

What are the voting machines in Arizona?

I just heard this morning that in one precinct everyone who voted yesterday needs to return and vote again today because there was a problem with the machines. It's a damn good thing there is early voting.

What are the voting machines in Arizona?

"Mixed: Paper-Ballot Voting Systems and DREs with VVPAT"

Where, "VVPAT = Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail Printers
DRE = Direct-Recording Electronic"

Sounds relatively "safe"...
