Full Version: Letter To Focus On The Family
Ed Schultz Message Board > Message Forums > The Show
Steve Cain
I just sent the following note to Focus On The Family (www.focusonthefamily.com) based on what Ed reported:

How can this organization, which tries to claim the name of Christ, even THINK of asking God to put weather issues on Denver tonight? And yet there is no mention of praying AGAINST the storms brewing in the Gulf Coast? Or are those people too poor or too dark for your liking?
It saddens me to think that an organization I once believed in has become so biased that they would try to use God against someone. Let me tell you, God does not work that way. If you would actually READ scripture, you would know that. Also realize that you are also mocking God, and scripture is very plain that God will NOT be mocked by anyone. This organization and it's leadership best repent and publicly renounce what it has said to avoid judgment.

As a Christian, I am offended by what Dobson has said and I repudiate his request.

That is what puzzles many of us-- these guys claim to speak for Jesus, yet what they really speak for is a brand of Christian fascism that I doubt Jesus would have recognised. Jesus, a Jew, stood for ethics and compassion. When has Mr Dobson or his rightie talk show colleagues shown an ounce of compassion for those with whom he disagrees? When has he shown concern for the struggles of the poor in America, if those poor people are (gasp) Democrats? Stem cells, oh that he gets furious about and says he could never vote for Obama. But sending kids into an unjust war or letting children sink further into poverty-- that's fine with him.

I dislike Rush Limbaugh with a passion that knows no bounds, but I certainly don't wish cancer on him or anything like that. Yet repeatedly, the righties say hateful things and the media let them get away with it or make excuses for them. Dobson gets a free pass no matter what he says. Yet if a leftie says something that COULD be taken negatively, the mainstream media fall into line. I heard an interview on NPR today where one of their rightie pundits was warning that the Obamas need to be careful not to express too much of their "black anger"-- huh??? And they expressed black anger where exactly? How bizarre.

as opposed to "white anger" which is ok to express in any manner they wish?

often in the form of automatic weapons fire in a (pick one) school, church, post office etc.

enough of this crap from the pharisaical right. jesus called them a "brood of vipers" and "hypocrits".

Umm, no he really didn't, and as your friendly Jewish feminist, I must defend the Pharisees. The New Testament gives them a very bad name, but the truth is they were loyal and faithful to Jewish tradition but they were also known for their compassion towards the poor, their willingness to welcome the stranger, etc. You can look it up.

I don't mind people quoting from the New Testament, but please believe me when I tell you it's not accurate as HISTORY. As theology, yes. But Jesus, a Jew, would only have objected to the Pharisees who were hypocritical-- like today's righties who are so angry about gay marriage and so unwilling to help the poor by creating better health care, not giving tax breaks to giant corporations that boost the price of food or gasoline, and creating genuinely family-friendly policies-- all the righties do is give speeches about how religious they are. Jesus would have objected to that, I am sure.
