QUOTE
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has accused the United States of orchestrating the conflict in Georgia to benefit one of its presidential election candidates.

In an exclusive interview with CNN's Matthew Chance in the Black Sea city of Sochi Thursday, Putin said the U.S. had encouraged Georgia to attack the autonomous region of South Ossetia.

Putin told CNN it was done to benefit a presidential candidate -- Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are competing to succeed George W. Bush.

Putin said Russia had no choice but to invade Georgia after some of its peacekeepers in South Ossetia were killed. He told Chance it was to avert a human calamity.

It sounds correct to me.

I was pretty sure that's what they were talking about at the Olympics. Looked like an interpreter had to separate the two of them at opening ceremony and I didn't noticed any other dignitaries sitting near bush.gif at other events.

sources have unverified stories from un lurkers in geneva that the russians are preparing to release documentary evidence seized in georgia of israeli plans to use georgia as staging point for a false flag attack on iranian assets. the flag falsely used would be american.

understand, this is completely unverified and i pass it along. would further explain the russian threat to place missiles in syria

with the news today of iranian upgrading conversion tech, and the story today of israeli authorities asserting their intent, we can anticipate and prepare for worst case scenarios while hoping for the best, rather like a force of nature coming your way.

The Israelis are as crazy as were the Nazis.

Apparently USA has enough common sense to deny Iraq airspace to Israel.

Eonwe, that goes too far. The Israelis have not attempted to send all Palestinian men, women and children into gas chambers or take over the universe. I admit that Israelis can be cruel and extreme (all nations can be and have been) but they are not Nazis. Honestly, I have Jewish friends, and being Catholic feel the need to answer the likes of Mel Gibson, and that's just too much.

You are correct, no gas chambers but that's post-1933 Germany what about pre-1933? And I didn't say they were Nazis, I said they're as crazy as were the Nazis and so is the US government and probably 60% of Americans. And I'm talking about the mindset not necessarily rounding people up for concentration camps, tattoos and stars.

OK, you can say that we all have the capacity for evil, but singling out Israelis, of all people, and comparing them to the Nazis is seriously out of line.

Ok, Lola I'll take back the Nazi comparison, I was dumping. I vent at the thought of yet more Israeli aggression, especially when it turns out that Islamic Pakistan is on the way to becoming another Afghanistan and US CIA agents had enabled Pakistani A. Khan nuke network. However, the USA and Israel are as bad as the Russians ever were, or as politicos portray the Iranians and Chinese. USA is at some level short of apartheid South Africa, Indonesia, Sudan, etc.

[rant]
In 1956, USA opposed the Russian invasion of Hungary, since then were have USA forces fought? Were are USA forces stationed? Which country is occupying which nations? Not to forget 911 was supposedly due to US forces in Saudi Arabia.

I don't know South Ossetia except they seem to want to be independent of Georgia. Russia sent some tanks fired off some rounds and the war with Georgia was over in 4 days, Turkey invaded Iraq for anti-terrorist reasons fired off some rounds and that war was over in a week, Britain sent show ships to the Falklands fired some rounds and that war was over in a month, even in Lebanon Hamas fired some rockets back at Israel and that war was over in a month. The USA? 7yrs in Afghanistan, 5yrs in Iraq, 50yrs in Korea. Throughout all US wars the men, women of the US military and their families have performed with honor and professionalism.

What about Russia fighting 10yrs in Afghanistan? The Russians were asked for assistance by the then Communist Afghanistan government against the Mujahaden rebels. USA immediately provided the rebels with arms, money and assistance for no other reason than to make Afghanistan a Russian Viet Nam.

The $12 billion a month just for Iraq could have built a lot of high speed rail in the USA, paid for UHC, educated millions of American born civil and electrical engineers, paid for cancer research, funded aerial re-forestation of forests, built flood plain drainage systems, etc., etc. And then there's the billions paid to Israel, Pakistan, Columbia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Germany for permanent US military bases and as "loans" to buy US armaments. Too much treasury money is wasted on US military-industrial colonialism.

And I find it ridiculous that warmongers think the USA could win in a non-nuke war beat in Russia or in China. Even if there were enough troops to invade, I'm sure ships would be sunk at sea, planes shot out of the skies, no supply lines, no fly overs, etc., etc. China could simply stop making parts and computer chips that power most US aircraft and ships; and shoot down US communication satellites. Who's kidding who?

Interesting - Palin's hubby is on BP's payroll
QUOTE
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A decision by Alaska's first family is raising concerns about a possible conflict of interest involving Gov. Sarah Palin and the oil industry.

The governor's husband, Todd Palin, is back on BP's payroll. Gov. Palin says his return will not influence her decisions involving the oil industry, but one former lawmaker who wrote an ethics guideline for the administration believes it's a bad move at the wrong time.

A few weeks after Gov. Palin was elected, Todd Palin took an unpaid leave of absence from his job as a North Slope oil field production operator.

The governor has called a special session of the Legislature to possibly rewrite the Petroleum Profits Tax. Her proposals could have a multi-million dollar impact on her husband's employer. BP could also become a major player in the natural gas line project.

while palindrones infect the entire list now, we must beat the infection back with focus upon important dynamics lest we dance, as most here are dancing, to the tune called by the gop and war party.

so we bring your attention to Israel of the Caucasus by ARNAUD DE BORCHGRAVE.
QUOTE
Israel began selling arms to Georgia seven years ago. U.S. grants facilitated these purchases. From Israel came former minister and former Tel Aviv Mayor Roni Milo, representing Elbit Systems, and his brother Shlomo, former director general of Military Industries. Israeli UAV spy drones, made by Elbit Maarahot Systems, conducted recon flights over southern Russia, as well as into nearby Iran.

In a secret agreement between Israel and Georgia, two military airfields in southern Georgia had been earmarked for the use of Israeli fighter-bombers in the event of pre-emptive attacks against Iranian nuclear installations. This would sharply reduce the distance Israeli fighter-bombers would have to fly to hit targets in Iran. And to reach Georgian airstrips, the Israeli air force would fly over Turkey.

The attack ordered by Saakashvili against South Ossetia the night of Aug. 7 provided the Russians the pretext for Moscow to order Special Forces to raid these Israeli facilities where some Israeli drones were reported captured.

In a round about way, it's the U.S. government selling them weapons. With the billions in military aid etc. they might as well have cut out the middle man (Israel) and bought it direct.

we can assume that israel is acting, as always, in its own interests. in georgia these are:

secure a base of operations for refueling aircraft destined for iranian attack zones with clarity of overflight

neutralize russian support for iran

protect investments in oil pipelines and mil/sec markets

advantage georgian gov't as self-proclaimed israel of the caucasus

american interests are:

continue and reinforce the encirclement of russia while denying her a sphere of influence

make opportunities for russia to mis-step and alienate itself from those we wish to include in our expanding sphere of influence

counteract russian use of burgeoning oil and gas revenues

employ national independence movements to tie down russian attention

use the georgia platform for military action against iran as events warrant

tritumi
with the russian destruction of georgian military airfield assets, the use of georgia for israeli and or american attacks on iran has been compromised. hence cheney's quick visit to reassure sashkavili and the further provocation that georgia has a future in NATO. indeed, it is not improbable that previous assurances as well as his knowledge of georgia as the northern platform against iran emboldened sashkavili to his preposterously ill-considered attack on south ossetia.

we are rushing towards the end game on policy options from the bush side. the russians know this and also that americans are empty threats in the balkans, an area of absolute strategic importance to the russians, of course. the israelis also know that bush is ending and mccain is far from a dead cert and that obama is far from on board. that means the window is narrow for launch against iran.

it is inconceivable that the us was not aware of and approved the attack on south ossetia. without a doubt the russians had adequate intelligence, their counter attack was mounted from readied jump off points ten hours after the first georgian advance.

but what has occurred now, it can be argued, is less a transformation of power balances, than the recognition that the balance shifts have already occurred.
