QUOTE
Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he and a camera crew were attempting to take pictures on a public sidewalk of Democratic senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown Palace Hotel.

Police on the scene refused to tell ABC lawyers the charges against the producer, Asa Eslocker, who works with the ABC News investigative unit.

A cigar-smoking Denver police sergeant, accompanied by a team of five other officers, first put his hands on Eslocker's neck, then twisted the producer's arm behind him to put on handcuffs.

A police official later told lawyers for ABC News that Eslocker is being charged with trespass, interference, and failure to follow a lawful order. He also said the arrest followed a signed complaint from the Brown Palace Hotel.

What are things coming to, this is outrageous!

Actually, if it is as presented, it is outrageous. I expect to hear your being just as outraged if and when a similar thing happens at the Republican Convention. I've looked back to see if you were outraged when photographers, newspeople without "proper authority," private citizens, etc., were arrested and/or removed from public areas during Republican gatherings, and I can't find any evidence that you were.

I did not present this with party line affiliation, to me this goes beyond party lines. I would be equally outraged not matter what the setting.

Cops blew this one-while hotel might have had some right if he was right in the entryway, sinple move up or down sidwalk should have sufficed. I hope my party condmens this and any activists who were associated with the event. We need to be transparent if you go to an event with an outside backer (either/any party) the rank and file and the opposition jave every right to know about it-informed consent of the governed. Oh yeah and the officer demanding camera crew shut down was way out of line with the law.

blink.gif Wonder if he was the one who looped together those Rev. Wright sermons? If he works for the investigative reporting division I wouldn't doubt it......Wonder if he will be doing the same thing at the GOP convention? There's way material there......can keep him busy and maybe out of trouble!! laugh.gif

Great reply. A producer gets arrested for taking pictures and trying to gather info for a story. I hope they give him free reign at the GOP Convention so he can expose every wrong doing, if it exists. Seems for the moment we won't know about this one.

Figured this thread would get hidden and put in the Free Speech Zone.

Given Eslocker's sole purpose, it's understandable that he'd run into some problems.
Everyone knows that if the police arrive on the scene, you acquiese. That's the way so many of us anti-Vietnam-war protestors lived to protest another day....

One question.

If she trespassed on private property should the law be enforced or ignored Hughie?

Why do you injest a she when there is no she? And to answer your question, a sidewalk is not private property.

You didn't answer the question at all. Just because she was ON the sidewalk when she was ARRESTED does not mean that she had not TRESPASSED. Saying they didn't trespass in NO WAY answers the question about what you think should be done IF THEY DID.

Answer the question if you can.

As far as the "she" that was my mistake. I saw the name Asa Eslocker and misinterpretted it to be a women's name.

Since when is public, private? Do you believe in free speech zones?

Do you believe in answering questions?

I don't believe in free speech zones. You have yet to prove your case and now you are simply deflecting from that point. Pathetic. You can pretend you didn't see what I just wrote. Others will see it. And they will see how desperate you are.
