Full Version: Completely Fed Up with Mainstream Media Coverage

I warn all those who read this...I am here to vent!

Over the past few nights I have become increasingly disgusted with the so-called mainstream media's coverage of the convention. This includes MSNBC. Last night was the final straw.

After Bill Clinton did what Bill Clinton always does - connect, inspire, and motivate - all in the RIGHT way getting folks fired up about this election and how Barrack IS ready, the John Kerry speech wasn't even aired by the cable networks. IT WAS ARGUABLY THE BEST SPEECH OF THE EVENING!

What's up with interviewing Mitt Romney with the Democratic Convention floor behind him? What's up with all of the talking heads trying to outdo one another in coming up with some perspective and anecdote that will get them "one up status" with their peers? When you selectively air speeches and eliminate others (like Kerry's) and then complain that the public isn't "hearing what they should hear from the Democrats" I want to go through the screen and slap every single one of them.

When John Kerry recognized Barrack's great uncle who was seated next to Michelle it was one of the truly touching moments of this or any convention...the subliminal piece was truly spectacular! Here's a white man of the Greatest Generation, who was a soldier in Europe during the war who helped liberate a Nazi concentration camp holding hands with and hugging his great nephews African American wife and the media talking heads are discussing whether or not Bill Clinton hit a home run! Disgusting!

I only watch PBS and C-Span from now on! Who needs three subtly different versions of Fox News? Edward R Murrow was right about the dangers of television!

Business as usual. I'm not surprised.

blink.gif I saw Rachel...and will continue to watch Rachel.....between the musical intervals I went to MSNBC just to see Rachel go after Pat, and she did a good job!! She was however frustrated with the coverage, you could see it in her face when the camera panned her way...between Chris Matthews and his unruly hair and train whistles going off at the most inopportune time......she definitely had her work cut out for her dry.gif
Nw back to C-Span!!!

If you can't get C-Span, make it PBS. I haven't watched one second of any of the MSM networks since the convention started. I'm watching C-Span online. Sure, the picture's small, but I've seen everything and heard every word. Why people even bother watching the MSM really puzzles me.
BTW: Try very hard to watch tonight's event on either PBS or C-Span. It wouldn't surprise me if the MSM were to cut to an interview of John McCain in the middle of Obama's speech. Barring that, they might just start interviewing one another....

M$M? ABC, CBS and NBC showed regular programming. A blurb on the national news. If it weren't for PBS I wouldn't be able to watch. Headed over to a friend's in a couple hours and will watch CSpan. BTW, PBS did show Kerry's speech.

CSPAN's been doing a great job. I watched on MSNBC on Monday, didn't like the way it was presented. Missed too much.

When I visited this board, it was suggested that everyone tune in to CSPAN for full coverage and I did. I've been tuning in to CSPAN all week. The coverage has been great.

BTW, John Kerry's speech was fantastic. The little guys who come to the podium to speak, between intervals with the headliners are also great.

Thanks everyone for turning me on to CSPAN this week. I appreciate it.

Next week? I don't know. The Cartoon Network sounds good...might do that.

I've given up, too. After tonight, I'm canceling my "extended cable" service which includes MSNBC, CNN and FAUX NOISE [which I never watch] and just go to basic cable (which includes PBS and C-Span). It'll save me about $38/month and lower my blood pressure.

Rachael is cool. She is still on Air America Radio, so I can catch her there.

Does basic cable include CSpan? Back when we had cable (I dropped it when Comcast played it's little trick of moving MSNBC out of the regular expanded lineup, so you had to go through all kinds of gyrations (and a couple of extra bucks) to get it) -- back when we had cable, I thought you could only get it on the expanded cable service. Good news for you if it is in the basic cable setup!

I love Keith Olberman, and I am a _big_ fan of Rachel's, but I stuck with CSpan, PBS, and NPR for almost all of this, with occasional forays out to MSNBC, etc.
