Asked if Stevens should resign, Graham said, "if you have a dark cloud over you, I just don't feel comfortable telling someone what to do. (But) I don't subscribe to the notion that you have to give up your career."

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), walking briskly into the Senate chamber, said Republicans were "focusing on energy today" and he declined to comment on Stevens.

Some lawmakers, however, are distancing themselves. According to an AP report, Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), is donating to charity nearly $20,000 in campaign donations from Stevens.

Dole, worried about her own seat, quickly cuts Stevens ties

QUOTE
WASHINGTON — Hours after Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens was indicted on Tuesday, his GOP colleague Sen. Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina sent his money to charity.

Dole donated $10,000 from her campaign to the Society of St. Andrew, a Christian anti-hunger organization, to equal the cash received this cycle from Stevens' political action committee.
