Asked if Stevens should resign, Graham said, "if you have a dark cloud over you, I just don't feel comfortable telling someone what to do. (But) I don't subscribe to the notion that you have to give up your career."
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), walking briskly into the Senate chamber, said Republicans were "focusing on energy today" and he declined to comment on Stevens.
Some lawmakers, however, are distancing themselves. According to an AP report, Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), is donating to charity nearly $20,000 in campaign donations from Stevens.
