I doubt it. Anti-Iraq war was not unpopular in Illinois. Obama's Iraq 2002 speech was an easy "safe bet" in a friendly surrounding. One could hardly say "Obama threw his carrer on the line" with the Iraq 2002 speech.

Note Illinois is a heavy Democrat state:

For Obama to say he was against the war was hardly noticeable at the time. Obama was tucked away with his pillow in Illinois.
