WOW! They really ROCKED together, didn't they? It was great the way Carlos made sure that Eric got his share of solo time, even directing his bass player over to him at one point. They are BOTH such great lead guitarists -- so natural and spontaneous. I've always wished I could play like that, so that the music comes straight from my soul, through my fingertips into the music, like it seems to do with them. It must be so satisfying...

I'll search for videos of my favorite artists. For now, I've got one I looked up for my birthday a month ago -- James Taylor doing "Secret of Life". It's not a concert, but a private recording among friends. This video is like the exact opposite of what you posted! laugh.gif Maybe it will help us all get a good night's sleep, anyway. tongue.gif I love the lyrics (I'm a lyrics person, maybe that's the singer/song-writer in me) -- they are good to remember when I get too serious about things...

For a change of pace, here's one by Bruce Springsteen, a live acoustic version of "Youngstown." Kind of appropriate, too, since the Ohio primaries are tomorrow, and the main issue seems to be jobs, or lack therof..

Here's a cool little guitar instrumental by Bruce Cockburn,a Canadian dude who's been around for a long time, even though I've just recently "discovered" him. This is also my own latest project on the guitar. I've almost got it down, but not quite. Cockburn is also quite a singer-songwriter. That's a classic, Aleman! I'm still a fan of Phil Ochs, even though he's been gone now for quite a few years. I remember listening to his album "All The News that's Fit To Sing" back in the late sixties. I have a book about him. Tragic the way his life ended. He was a true American rebel. One of my favorites of his was "Talkin' Vietnam Blues"..Strangely enough, I used to listen to that one before I went to 'nam..I don't know if that's available on You Tube, but if it is, I'll post it.

Thanks for putting this one up! cool.gif

Here's a clip of a guy in a low-flying aircraft, with the Stephen Stills tune, "Tree Top Flyer" playing in the background. "Treetop flyer "refers to pilots in Vietnam who would fly "low and slow, just above the treeline"..This is my fave acoustic song by Stills.

Another Bruce Cockburn song, this one with vocals, called "If I had A Rocket Launcher." This was written back in the days of Noriega and the Contras, I believe..A statement against war, and pretty political. But, we usually don't GET that "political" around here, do we?LOL

I had never seen the video or the movie before, but I enjoyed the clip. It was a little on the dark side, and kind of disturbing, but in a "cool" kind of way..

You're right Linda, the vocalist of Sweetwater does remind me a lot of Grace Slick. I hadn't heard much of that band either, but the first song reminded me of something I've heard by Delaney and Bonnie..Good stuff!

This a a clip from "Easy Rider", still my favorite flick of all time. Guess it was my youth or something, but I really dug this movie, and probably saw it at least five times.. cool.gif ..Steppenwolf is playing "The Pusher", but it's only a short clip, as I just discovered..Oh, well.

Phil Ochs was a folk singer, who wrote and sang "topical" songs back in the mid-sixties. He was a classic "protest" singer. When the genre kind of fizzled out,his career went south, he became depressed and started drinking too much, and eventully hanged himself. A tragic story.

Here's an example of a really controversial song, that didn't exactly endear him to Richard Nixon.. wink.gif This was recorded later on in his career, circa early seventies..

This is my favorite all-time song by Bob Dylan, the "poet-philospher" of the folk-rock world. This song never got any airplay, because it was way too long, and didn't fit the mode of radio programming in general. To me, this was his masterpiece, although with all the other great songs he has written, I know not everyone will agree. Still, the lyrics are haunting, and this collage of images mirrors the lyrics, which, as usual for Dylan, are full of metaphore and open to individual interpretations. That's what made Dylan the most important and influential recording artist of my generation, imho.. cool.gif

Vintage Dylan recorded in 1964 at the Newport Folk Festival. Pete Seeger and other folk icons are sitting behind Dylan, who is about 23 or 24 years old here..By this time he had already written such great anthems as "The Times They Are A Changing", Blowin' in The Wind", "Masters Of War", and "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall." This is "Mr. Tambourine Man", which was late made into a huge hit by the Byrds.
