Hillary is well aware of the magnitude of her baggage. To ask us to drag all of that unpleasantness to the white house is to ask an extreme amount of us, the rank and file. Polls already show that McCain would lose to Obama but defeat Hillary. This is before the ambush that the right has been planning for well over ten years. Ted Kennedy never asked us to cart the Chappaquiddick baggage in the direction of the White House because he knew it wouldn't be right or responsible. Hillary is far more ambitious and doesn't mind risking everything to advance her own ambitions. It is irresponsible of her to demand this of us.
A Hillary nomination would be a gift of epic proportions to the Republican Party. It would be the answer to their prayers and would unite and revitalize their party. We would then descend into a painful review of the crimes and betrayals of the Clinton presidency. After all the dust - and mud and blood - settles, we will wonder what possessed us to think that we could drag all that baggage to the White House.
More importantly we will wonder why we wanted to. She will be ready to continue betraying us on day one.
We could enter into an invigorating campaign where the charismatic Obama draws people in from all across the spectrum. Or we can send them all packing, some to Nader or McKinney, some to McCain or whatever slimeball replaces him if his crimes catch up with him soon, or to just sitting it out with like usual. How could we consider these comparable choices? It's between political heaven or political hell. Why is that a tough choice?
