NOT a pedophile, huh? Here's how that "rag" The Oxford English Dictionary says it:

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.0.1) - Cite This Source
pe?do?phile? [pee-duh-fahyl] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun Psychiatry.
an adult who is sexually attracted to young children.
Also, pedophiliac.

No place left to spin you gang of cretinous half-wits.

I'm sure that I wasn't the only one who saw this one coming from a mile away. What defense attorney wouldn't use the Catholic priest molestation defense? It's right out of sex crime defense 101, make your client the victim.
Was this the bombshell that Ed was talking about? If so, it was a dummy shell, hit the ground with a "thud".

Technically, he's a Ephebophile, taken from "hebe" the greek goddess of youth. Also technically he is a pervert. And technically, anyone who defends him or tries to compare him to Bill Clinton and Monica is an uneducated freak.

I just don't know what to say about his "molestation" except he is insulting people that have actually been through the trauma of molestation and survived WITHOUT becoming molesters themselves.

I saw it coming and.... BINGO! There it was. The priest turned me into an alcoholic pedophile. I would be a righteouus dude if.....
Geez! I am so tired of the arguments and the blame game. The priest did it to you, so you were forced to do it to others. No! No! That's not it! The priest did it to me and I liked it, so I thought others would like it.
Is that it?
I'm just sick and tired of these people who can't come to terms with their own misbehavior. Did I think it was wrong when the priest was doing it to me? Well, if I did, why can't I see that it's just as wrong when I'm doing it to pages? Doesn't compute?
God help us all! We just don't want to take credit for our misdeeds that result in appallance, but we sure do want to take credit for our misdeeds that result in applause. These people just don't understand the difference.

Of Course! Damn! What a sorry purveyer of the news I am! I should have known right from the start that this was all part of an under-cover sting! Geez!
I am such a lout.....
I'll bet it was also a part of an under-cover sting operation to root out members of Congress who had a "thing" for an aide. Yeah! Yeah! That's the ticket! Or, maybe it was an under-cover operation to root out those damned gay aides who came on to members of Congress and made them go astray.
My money's on the second option. That Mark Foley was a f***in genius!

Besides, what slanderous, hurtful damage does this claim do to OTHER child vicitms of sexual assault by priests or anybody? It could make those victims' lives miserable as they reach adulthood and have a new shroud of suspicion cast over them, that THEY may become the monster who victimized them... sad.gif It's total BS, like you all said. Foley and his supporters in Congress need to take responsibility for their actions. Period.

Oohh! I hadn't thought of that. So, is everyone who was once molested by a priest a pedophile? That really sucks!
I don't want to blame kids, but I'm thinking that there were probably plenty of kids that failed to fall into the priest/congressman trap. What did they have that the victims didn't? I'm really getting interested in this subject. Obviously, some boys did not fall prey - what made others susceptible? I doubt very much that it was sexual orientation - I venture to guess that it was the result of some other dynamic. Are some members of society raising children to be more susceptible to control than are others?
Interesting thought.

I must say this, and I do know my fair amount on the subject -- he probably was molested as a child. Most child molestors (and wannabees*) were. I don't find that surprising at all.

BUT, it in no way exonerates his actions. He was/is completely responsible.

Congress sees through party-colored glasses

ASHINGTON -- For more than a week, members of Congress said they would avoid partisan politics when they got Kenneth Starr's report on President Clinton. But when they finally saw it Friday, they split along party lines.

More coverage:
Full text of Starr's report

The president: America judges Clinton

Monica Lewinsky: The story of a naive intern, lust and love

White House reacts: Read the rebuttal text via AP [part one and two]

Capitol Hill: Congress sees through party-colored glasses

Locally: Reaction of Floridians in Congress

On the Net: Lurid details of affair disgust many

Troxler: Lunchtime diversion is difficult to digest

Special forum: What's your take on the crisis?

Republicans were aghast at Clinton's behavior, with many saying it showed he had lied and abused his power.

"It's vile," said Rep. Mark Foley, R-West Palm Beach. "It's more sad than anything else, to see someone with such potential throw it all down the drain because of a sexual addiction."

Democrats said they, too, were troubled by the explicit details about Clinton's sexual affair with Monica Lewinsky. But several Democrats said there was nothing in the report to justify impeachment.

"It's tabloid," said Rep. Albert Wynn, D-Md. He said the report was a sensational account of the times and locations of Clinton and Lewinsky's sexual encounters, but it did not break any new ground about the allegations against the president.

"I don't think you need to know the times or the hallways" where the encounters took place, Wynn said.

Clinton's fate now lies with Congress.

Next week, the House of Representatives is expected to formally send Starr's report to the Judiciary Committee, which will decide whether to recommend impeachment proceedings. The full House would then decide whether to impeach the president. If that happens, the case will then move to the Senate, where the case would be tried with senators sitting as jurors.

Some of the strongest reaction Friday was in response to Starr's account of Lewinsky performing oral sex on Clinton as he chatted with members of Congress on the telephone.

That was "just sad," Foley said. "It's unbelievable that he could behave so carelessly in that setting."

Starr's report said Clinton was on the telephone with Rep. Sonny Callahan, R-Ala., during his second sexual encounter with Lewinsky. Callahan, in a prepared statement, said he was talking to Clinton about the American mission in Bosnia. He said he "had no knowledge I was sharing the president's time or attention with anyone else."

Rep. Thomas Davis, R-Va., said the report is "worse than I had thought. Starr lays out a very strong case."

"I have read enough of the report to believe we should have an impeachment hearing," said Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas. "I think the president has a very serious problem on his hands."

Rep. Constance Morella, R-Md., said the report "read like a novel. I was very shocked by the graphic nature of it."

But Democrats said the report centered on a personal sexual relationship that did not warrant action by the House.

Rep. Charles Rangel of New York said that in the atmosphere of "rancorous partisanship" gripping Congress, some members "are demanding a moral standard for the president that is higher than they would set for themselves."

Next week, the Judiciary Committee's first task will be to determine how much of the evidence can be released to the public. The committee has until Sept. 28 to review about 2,600 additional pages of evidence to determine what is releasable. Some committee members could begin looking at the documents today.

The committee's primary task, though, will be determining whether to recommend Clinton be impeached. That could be contentious because the judiciary committee is one of the most partisan in Congress.

Among the 19 Republicans are Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia, one of Clinton's strongest critics. The 15 Democrats include Rep. Robert Wexler of Boca Raton, one of Clinton's most loyal supporters.

Wexler said Friday: "There was nothing in the report that laid out a case (that Clinton) tampered with witnesses or obstructed justice. The president has betrayed his wife, but I don't think he has betrayed the American people."

Two other Florida Republicans on the committee, Bill McCollum of Longwood and Charles Canady of Lakeland, also are expected to play prominent roles in the inquiry.

Despite the growing partisan rhetoric, Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde, R-Ill., vowed the process would be fair.

"Due process and fundamental fairness will be observed," Hyde said. "We're going to wait and hear what the president has to say."

It's the unmitigated HYPOCRISY that these guys display, particularly Foley in this case, that makes me HIGHLY doubtful of his contrition AND significantly reduces my sympathy for him concerning any factors that may have contributed to his criminal behavior...

I don't care if Foley was molested in the Vatican, nothing excuses his behavior. How silly, so far the Republicans have tried to lay blame & made inferences to the victims, a priest, alcohol. . .is the "Twinkie Defense" far behind?

I have said this previously, it is not an excuse but our society is becoming a non-accountable responsibility.

As an example, in Baltimore an boy (now a man) was molested by a priest some 25 years ago. A few years ago that man went up to the priest and shot him. The man was let go by the court (jury) for attempted murder. He paid no time for his crime. This is not a Republican only idea.

I'll grant you it deserves more examination than we "superior Americans" give it.

Its just like we set up strawmen & beat them incessantly: The deadbeat dad stereotype, an absolute sexual predator, the wife-beater, etc.

It feels good to have someone we can kick around the room guilt-free.

Again, my issue isn't entirely Foley himself (at least on the basis of current information) - but the kneejerk shields that are going up by the NeoCONs protecting their own at all costs. If this guy had a problem & they heard about it - they needed to see if some intervention was necessary.

Its the climate of absolutism --- of "we are sanctified" & oversight is not necessary because "we are benevolent dictators" which enables this.
