One hell of an October Surprise. I don't think this is the type of surprise Rove had in mind.

I'm wondering if the Foley incident isn't an example of the repugs giving up one or more of their own in order to deflect attention from the claims in "State of Denial" book. I'm wondering if the base doesn't really care enough about all of this to stay away from the polls because it involves homosexuality and they think that's a sin to begin with. Notice how the Woodward book and it's claims have dropped out of sight. So, just because we are outraged about Foley doesn't mean the right wing base is. Look at how they're blaming the victims now!

"I think you are right."

I could see you trying to accomplish this.

If this was a Rove plan, the Republican leadership wouldn't have had their d*cks sticking out to be chopped.

No, this was because there was a watchdog organization, CREW, who found this out and contacted the FBI, who didn't care, so they went to the press. If the FBI had investigated in July, when CREW took it to them, it wouldn't have happened like it did.

Believe me, this is the worst thing that could have happened to them, and they didn't plan it, that's for sure.

Agree. If this would have happened in July, there would have been enough time for some voters to forget, and for the repubs to find acceptable replacement candidates for those who resigned like Foley. To me, the only viable strategy, given the short one month timeframe, is to force resignations as quickly as possible to prevent this thing from growing even worse, then hope enough hardcore conservatives still turn out in November to retain control of the house.
