unsure.gif blink.gif Bush gives one speech after another--saying the same old dreary subjects---culminating with a speech to the General Assembly at the UN---what a "bully-pulpit"? Speechifying to a public who really isnt paying much attention...much less "hanging on his every word". The DEMS have been "screaming" in pretty much unison on a daily basis, about their plans for the country---if they could achieve the balance of power they and many in the country long for.-----but is the public listening?? We know the media isn't paying attention----The media is salivating over Mr. Bush it seems...and in doing so are manipulating the public as well as recent poll numbers---with nothing really changing except maybe the cost of a gallon of gasoline.......(is that all it takes) How gullible are we really.....????

You hit the nail on the head with the problems of the Dems. Our nation loves great sound bytes, catchy slogans, and feeling good. They don't want to be bored to death with plans and solutions. If the Dems are to get any power they need market their message and sell it to the people just like the Rethugs. They need to give the people a nice lullaby that will make the people want to snuggle in favorite blanket with and have a good night sleep...

The nail Ilise hit on the head is the media. Even when a Dem sponsors a bill against terrorism (did you hear about the one that spells out safety measures for our ports that passed the other day?), it doesn't appear in the "liberal" media at all. 95% of our citizens don't even know this bill passed and yet every day since our fine fourth estate dutifully prints the Rep diatribes that Dems are weak on defense and appeasers of our enemies. What a crock of crap! What you say about the Dems needing to package and sell their message is true. First they need to get the ear of the press so that the message can get out.

Easier said than done. Somewhere down the road the Dems lost credibility with the media. Maybe it's because the media isn't about providing information, their about building their corporation and the way to do that is to be Republican friendly.

I believe that the way the Dems are going to get their message out is with attack / negative adds. Quit being so damn ethical and stir up a little controversy. They have to figure out some way to label all repubs as a bunch fanatical, war mongering, religious extremists, money loving nuts. Just like they managed to label all Dems as tax and spend liberals and terrorist appeasers. Start playing politics and play it to win.

Unfortunately, I think you are right here. The only thing the media understands is sleaze messages and short sound bites, which the Dems have not been so good at recently. The MSM seems to love anything that lumps everybody in a group together because it is easy to put that rhetoric into one sentence bits that play well on air. There is really nobody any longer who does more than a drive-by (sorry to use Lumnuts terminology here) report on any topic any longer, with the exception of Olbermann, NPR, and PTV.

blink.gif With Fox News having "problems"with their graphics of late should be an eye-opener" how desperate the GOP truly are........but now is not the time for the DEMS to sit back and watch the GOP self-destruct...with 18 days left...the GOP aren't licking their wounds yet...........I know the DEMS are the party of true compassion...but now is not the time to be giving the opposition a band-aid
