Great job! It was cool to hear the shout out to Plunderer as I was driving down the road.
I have a question,
Is there a way for citizen's to legally challenge the signing statements? It really infuriates me that this administration is willfully and deliberately ignoring the laws passed by congress.

what about how the courts are catering to the bush adminstration instead of defending the job they are to do, protect the constution?

now this may be way out there...but what if they are part of the bigger picture with the adminstration. Are they protected from legal actions, and if so what is the pecedure in prosicuting?

all it takes to impeach a prez is a majority in the house of reps....the dems and responsible repubs, for many decades (centuries, even!) did not go that far...but this crowd of insane maniacs just needed any pretext...and clinton gave them one. if the dems had the power (let's pray they get it) they won't impeach this rat even tho if anyone should, this bozo is it!!!

Norm, one of the problems I see in my travels is that our own fellow liberals don't understand the labor movement and what it's about and what it means. They have a viewpoint that is largely the viewpoint they received from the right. The labor movement has done a piss-poor job of explaining who they are and how important this movement is to our own fellow travelers.

Happy to say that our fellow libs on this board have been getting their education from our union-member posters!

So Norm, why don't you think most Democrats are howling about the many many ways this president has hurt working men and women? David Sirota, Russ Feingold, Bernie Sanders, Byron Dorgan-- and an occasional senator or rep like Kennedy will say something, but there is no orchestrated and unified (and outraged) message. For example, I sent you e-mail about the TWELVE THOUSAND companies keeping mailboxes in the Cayman Islands to avoid paying taxes. They outsource our jobs and then the CEOs make tons of bucks in profit and they don't pay a cent in taxes on any of it. When the Dems tried to close that loophole, the Repubs voted it down, and that was the last I heard of it. WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE? WHERE IS THE COURAGE? Why won't Dems speak up more? (And yeah I know the right wing media won't cover it much, but if we keep on insisting something is wrong, surely they will be forced to cover it...) mad.gif

i am a MAJOR eliot spitzer fan!! i've been watching him for several years now, and he's very smart and able. i think he's already running for president, altho he'll be elected governor first, in november. he returns dems to the "trust busting" populist ways that win so many votes. he represents government at its best....cleaning up crooked marketplaces; putting corporate criminals behind bars and opening up competition for REAL capitalism...not this phony baloney crony capitalism of bush, cheney, et al. Then we agree. I heard rumors that Kerry was going nominate him for AG if he (Kerry) had become President. Spitzer was literally waging a one man war against corporate corruption during the Bush years, and I admire him for that.

if leadings dems hold press conferences about it, the corporate media will have to cover it, like it or not! the problem, as i see it, is dems are too busy being 'republican lite' and won't make a clean break with corporate money AND ANNOUNCE IT: "WE WON'T TAKE ANY CORPORATE MONEY...VOTE US IN AND YOU'LL GET CLEAN ELECTIONS, WITH SPECIAL INTEREST MONEY THROWN OUT"....but, until one big, overpowering dem comes along, and smashes to victory, and brings a dem congress along that goes along with the prez, only then will something big happen. until then, the mousey little dems will remain too afraid of their own shadows to do anything. sorry to sound so negative, but that's how i see it!

dems need a strong party leader that sets a clear agenda....and working people's rights should be way high up on that list!!!!!!!!!

My fantasy presidential card is Russ (My Future Husband) Feingold for prez and Keith Olbermann for VP! We could have Dorgan, Obama, Sirota, Boxer, Barney Frank, Tom Harkin and Big Eddie in the cabinet!

Seriously, as a proud Dem, this is a time of great frustration for me-- I keep waiting for more Dems to stand up and speak out, yet it seems they are hanging back for some reason. Wonder why... The religious wingnuts have already made up their minds-- it's the undecided voters whose hearts (and minds) need to be won over, and we need to articulate why we are better-- not just that we aren't Repubs...

I used to think that any talk of impeaching Dubya would just be election fodder for the righties..."see all the DEMS want to do is impeach Bush".....I kinda still do and agree with what Ed said...."there are more important things Congress could be doing....and will hopefully get done with the Dems in power again.........for one they would have supeona power and the checks and balances will once again be in place.

I asked Ed and Holmey this a while back, so let me ask you too. The Repubs know how to use the media-- okay fine, they run it and dominate it, but still, it's a great skill to articulate those talking points in a clear and concise way. Who do the Dems have that is photogenic and speaks well? We need a "go to" person-- somebody that when an issue comes up, the networks and radio stations can get a concise yet intelligent sound byte. Kerry can't do it. Kennedy can't do it. Pelosi and Read can't do it-- they may be nice folks, but they can't get that message out without stumbling over every other word. More generally... how did the republicans get so much support among union members? Traditionally the unions voted democratic. And how did the republicans convince the small and medium business owners that policies written to benefit mega-corporations would be good for small businesses too?

And how do we convince them all to come back?
