Full Version: Vote for Dixie Chicks on right wing radio
Ed Schultz Message Board > Message Forums > Ed Head World > PROGRESSIVES ONLY
BRENDAW
There is a radio station in Lima Ohio that is taking votes on whether or not to play the Dixie Chicks music. The DJ, Brian Steel, said he is trying to be fair and let it be decided by the votes. He has been bombarded with emails. He later went on to say that he would never support anyone who speaks out against our leaders (he said this after he was complaining about the hateful emails he was getting). I guess he was attacked by his own kind.

If you are interested in supporting the ones who dare speak out then go to t102.com

Select local stuff / staff / Brian Steel staff page and vote.

Thanks

I'm torn. I want to give them my vote of support, but I don't live anywhere near Lima. I don't think it's fair to interfere in their vote, on a purely democratic stance. Maybe it's because I support Lamont and not Lieberman, and I'm sick of out of staters telling me who I have the right to vote for. I know this is culture, not politics, but it seems wrong. Am I a wierdo or what? blink.gif

Damnit, it's a freakin' internet poll. Get off yer ass and vote!

You know the rightie freepers are doing this as well. Might as well counter them.

Thanks, Brendaw. I added my vote.

Lima, Ohio… “Deep in the Heart of Dixie”… what does the Rodeo look like there? Just what we need Illegal Immigrants paid to pose as Lima Cowboys (Lima Beaners)

As I walked out in the streets of old Lima, As I walked out in old Lima one day… I spied a young cowboy all dressed in white linen, White linen that shined as bright as the day…. I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy… I see by your outfit you are a cowboy too… We see by our outfits that we are both cowboys…. If you get an outfit you can be a cowboy too… (Ripped from the Smothers Brothers)

I'm guessing it's not getting much traffic. Since the last results posted in this thread, my vote appears to have tipped the balance toward "yes" by an astounding .27% This does not bode well for the D-Chicks in Lima. unsure.gif

Can you edit the direct link into the top post I think people are walking away because they can't find the poll

At first I felt bad about voting in a poll for a station in Ohio that I wouldn't listen to if it were the last station on the air and I didn't live in Colorado and couldn't pick it up anyway, and then I thought "what the hell" they don't know where I live so screw them. I voted. It's now 39.76% against and 60.24% for.

Start votin'. As Big Eddie would say, and it cracks me up every time "get'er done"

OK you bullies, I have fallen prey to the evils of peer pressure. I voted for the Ladies of Freedom. After seeing the cockie piggie in the picture "Brian Steel" ( sounds like he took his stage name from a cowboy boostier ripper romance novel), I just had to vote.
I still like the original version of Lanslide though.

I like the original version of Landslide, but I also like the new version. After all, the Dixie Chicks did have the courtesy to work with Stevie Nicks, who wrote the song, on their remake. So, it is a good tribute --- and appropriate as Nicks' grandfather was a country singer. (When the album with that song came out, I heard one of the local stations would carry an interview with the Dixie Chicks, and Stevie Nicks called in. So, I think it is okay to like both versions of a song.)

As of now, the vote stands at:

Play
40.13 %
Don't Play
59.87 %

So, maybe pass this on at a few other places.

Hey folks, this is electronic voting. If that program is one of Diebold’s products, the popular vote might not be revealed correctly anyway. smile.gif There’s a rumor that Brian Steel has a purge list of people who have never ridden a horse or are not redneck material. Circle your “Big gas” trucks around the campfire boys. laugh.gif

I am glad that celebrities use their position to speak out. Many Politicians don’t seem to get out of their little circle without this kind of prodding.

I voted twice to bump it up to 39.78.
Went there using Mozilla-Firefox and voted, then switched to IE and voted again.

You're no weirdo at all--just a liberal trying to be fair to everbody. hug2.gif In this case it's a vote against censorship and a vote for upholding the 1st amendment. Vote for the liberals who live in that region. They need reinforcement.

Thank you, could not have said it better myself. If you want more encouragement to vote then please note that this "local" radio station is owned by Clear Channel Broadcasting which is a part of Fox.

My opinion is since the vote is on the web, then anyone who has access and is aware of it, can vote.

As Bush said the "The internets are a good thing", or something along those lines.

The deadline for voting is July 31, 2006.

I think you can guess the results of that one.

If the vote were just the trailer trash rednecks it would be:

Michael Moore: don't tar & feather

‘Cause tar is a petroleum by-product and what with the price of a barrel of awl at today’s prices it would cost a fortune to do that big boy proper. But if’n we had to, we should use them bird-flu feathers.

Now my opinion. They should not be played. Anywhere. The fat one went to another country and knocked our country. If a member of some group you might be in went to another group and talked trash about your group, would you be very happy? No. And niether are us true Americans. Sure people are allowed to say whatever, but if you don't like this country, get the hell out. I think everybody should spend a couple years in another country, or join the military for two years, so that when and IF you come back, you will have a totally different point of view of the United States and the freedoms we all take for granted.

Maines told the audience earlier this week, “Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas.”

They didn't say anything about our country - just the frat boy wanna be cowboy running it. If you don't like that, I suggest you move. Pick a communist country where people aren't allowed to criticize their leaders. You will be happier there. wink.gif

Chad,
Since you just joined the board two days ago (did your boss at T102 put you up to it?), you may not know that you posted your comments on the "PROGRESSIVES ONLY" forum. You have the right to your opinion, but not the right to post it in the progressives only forum. Sorry, those are the rules. By your comments, it is safe to assume that you are neither progressive ( or in favor of our constitutional rights of free speech). You may find your comments deleted from this thread in the near future.
As for your "true american comment", well butt.gif

The official vote was 1017 to play the Dixie Chicks and 1009 not to play. Brian Steele was honest enough to admit that the votes were "Loaded" by both sides (mainly on my side). He also states that some (me) had to make this political. Gee, who would of thought something like this would happen with an issue so controversial as the Dixe Chicks. He will be making the decision himself on whether or not to play them.

As a suggestion to Brian, maybe you should pick a day or a week so people can call in their votes to ensure a more "fair" voting process.

I probably never would have posted the original message if the comments were not made about people speaking out against our leaders. My ancesters has been here since the 1600's and have fought in every war America has ever been involved in. My father lost a partial limb in the Korean war. I spent several years of my childhood visiting him in the Vetrans Hospital in Dayton Ohio. He is buried there. It just ticks me off when people imply that I am unAmerican. I saw a bumper sticker once that pretty much sums it up "I think therefore I am a Liberal".

Oh, and Chad I'll buy you a one way ticket to China, they don't speak out against their leaders there.
LindyLou
Thanks for the update Brenda. It's a sad commentary that in the United States of America there needs to be a vote like that in spite of 1st amendment protections. But why would anyone let a little thing like the US Constitution get in the way of their censorship. Right Chad-- usa.gif You genuine amerikon, you.
