First, the neo-conservative movement is composed, not of conservatives, but of disaffected liberals who saw that the old liberal methods weren't working. They needed something different. So for more influence they joined with the Republicans and gained a strength that they couldn't win in the Democratic party.
Second, their methods are not conservative and have little or nothing in common with evangelical thinking. They take a wholly political approach to issues, just as do their liberal cousins.
Third, their approach to internationalism is the very thing that we decried decades ago. Open trade is one thing, but open trade with our enemies (PROC) is quite another. In this matter the tradition conservative is closer in sentiment to the labor union idea of protecting American jobs than to the neoconservative trade ideas.
Fourth, nobody will talk about this problem in plain, simple terms. This group may well force evangelicals to re-evaluate their relationship to the Republican Party as well as any relationship to the Democratic Party.
