Ed brags about Cindy Sheehan but she went and met with the Communist
Chavez to work against the US / Bush. Is siding with someone dedicated
to the overthrow of America (real threat or not, that's his position) the
kind of patriotism that should be exampled here?

Now, Chavez made something RRL called a threat. Not quite. What he WAS calling for was an end to American imperialism, interfering in other country's governance.

So, RRL questions the patriotism that would still side with Cindy Sheehan. He also continues to falsely call Chavez a communist. He seems to hate communists.

Now, the fact that Chavez is powerless to actually attack or hurt America doesn't matter to him.

Now, here's where the extreme hypocrisy comes in. China is an AVOWED communist country, and a top-ranked general has threatened us with nuclear war:

The recent threats of nuclear war by a high-ranking Chinese general should send shivers down the spine of Americans and the world. Speaking in Hong Kong, Major General Zhu Chenghu issued a warning to the United States that if it didn’t mind its own business over Taiwan, it should expect reprisals in the form of a nuclear attack. General Zhu made the comments at an official military briefing. He said, "If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition on to the target zone on China's territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons."

Now, China has the capablity to attack us, as a matter of fact, they are building their military up extremely quickly, almost similar to Germany in the thirties. We are selling China military technology.

You see, I don't trust communists. Never have. Russia overthrew their communist masters, which I applaud. Of course, their current President seems to be a throwback. But the Chinese are STILL communists.

If RRL were to question the Republican Administration (and the democratic one before them) as to why they are trading military secrets, borrowing money from and giving our ability to manufacture away to a communist country which has not disavowed these threats, and has never disavowed it's stated goal of destroying the United States, I would be with him 100%. I think the dealings we have with China borders on treason.

Why in the world is RRL ignoring this huge problem and focusing on Chavez instea?

Good question.

Absolutely right! I always wondered the same thing.

'You[China] are the biggest military threat to us and will soon be a super power and heres some money and jobs so you can improve your infrastructure and military might'. In 50 years, will we be asking WHY were we so stupid?

I pursued the problem with each of the last 2 administrations dealings
with PROC in another thread, but as related to COSCO and the ports.
I disagree with both administrations when dealing with PROC.
I like global open trade, but not at the expense of funding those
who statedly oppose the US.

GoU & I can agree on this. I just wish he'd stop lying about me.

I just wish you'd stop calling lefties unpatriotic. It's deeply offensive.

The thing about Chavez and Castro alike is that they are not opposed to Americans or even American values per se.

They are both opposed to American Hegemony, or what they label (rightly or wrongly, you decide) as American Imperialism.

Castro, for instance, pledged his help in the war on terrorism by promising to cooperate with the US government as it related to the greater war on terrorism. His offer was promptly denied by the US government (which in my opinion, is a grave national security error). The official policy of the Cuban government has been for many years, to welcome Americans into Cuba.

And of course you have to understand their motivations. They are both somewhat Marxist (Castro's more astute observers have accurately labeled him a "Fidelist," one with a larger allegiance to power than Marxism) and come very much from the view of the proleteriat v. bourgeosie mindset in which they view America as a kind of global bourgeosie.

There's no real military threat from Venezuela or Cuba, even combined. They're just huffing and puffing. However, as Venezuela now resides over the largest stocks of oil, it's probably not wise to piss them off too much.
