Some suggestions for guests.
Most are pretty obvious.
1. Bernard Trainor / Michael Gordon. Their book COBRA II is pretty incredible due to the level of detail.
2. Kevin Phillips. His book American Theocracy is extreme in some points, but his "street cred" over 40 years and the extensive documentation for the book make it truly great.
3. John W. Dean. [...speaking of... "Street Cred"].

PLEASE DO NOT INVITE:
666. Katie Couric.

And a few more suggestions....
1. Ana Marie Cox ["The Wonkette!"]
2. Katherine Harris [No kidding! She's running and she's desperate... ]
3. Charlie Cook [The Repub pundit is a good speaker. He's very articulate and knowledgeable. He also seems on-track to step into Carl Rove's shoes, or maybe J. Edgar's stiletto heels...]
4. James Risen ["State of War" was pretty good, and it trigered the NSA scandal. However, Risen's not the most scintillating guest, and he seems to cautiously choose his words. That's probably wise, since the Bush administration has implied he should be burned at the stake as a "leaker."
5. Maureen Dowd [she has a very caustic wit, is extremely funny, and she's trying to sell her book (which isn't so great)].

Anyway, that's my two cents.

1. Charles Bowden- Blood Orchis, et. al. Knows more from up close about the border, drugs and illegals than anyone.
2. Robert Baer- Sleepig with the Devil. Retired Middle East CIA. Knows lots about Iran, Hezbollah,.....
3. Col. T. X. Hammes Sling and the Stone. Assymetrical warfare expert. Military wouldn't let him back in for the was- too controversial.

Like your idea about Kevin Phillips re: theocracy and its dangers - how about some Progressive Christian voices that reject that notion in the spirit of 'Separation of Church and State' for a week or so. Jim Wallis, Tony Campolo come to mind, there are others and we need to give them a venue.
