What a sell out!! After labor unions and the middle class put their lives and jobs in the hands of Dems this is their payback? Kennedy-McCain proposal is too lenient on employers, to liberal on illegals whether they come from Mexico, Israel, europe or elsewhere. Democrats want punish Bush for lying and breaking laws but when it comes to illegals who do not vote they're willing to look the other way?

What is going on here? $20 bn on border security nets $7bn in SS and that's a good bargain for the country? And don't neglect additional state and local taxes to pay for illegals. When Ed and the other progressive radio hosts complain about the gap between the rich and poor incomes they should point to Democrats.

I doubt the 70,000 in Iraq are illegal immigrants they better have green cards or visas. BS if you don't think they can deport 11 million immigrants. Amnesty didn't work in 1986 and it won't work now. I feel for illegals with families outside the country but they are no different than anyone else. If they got here illegally, they can go visit illegally. An illegal immigrant comes to this country has a child and no one wants to deport them because of the child? No wonder they come.

You must of heard Jay yesterday and that author who tried to claim what a great deal the 7 billion was and leave out the 50 billion they cost.

I have to agree on this. There has to be a better plan, one that involves employers of illegals. Nothing in the Kennedy-McCain plan scares the pants off those who hire illegals, pay them under the table, and prefer hiring people they can dick when it comes to payment. It's not good for anyone.
By the same token, blanket amnesty doesn't solve the other problems, which include further across-the-border incursions by successive waves of illegals. To offer the hope of amnesty, just ascerbates the impetus to "migrate."
We may just as well man the border with people holding signs that say, "Welcome!"

So, Mac, you believe as I do that we have this sudden rush to a solution of the "alien situation?"
Hurry, hurry up, boys! The constituency is waiting....
Yeah, all of a sudden something that happened over many years - and has been allowed to happen over many years - becomes suddenly something of interest.
Guess we don't have to ask ourselves why, but I think that every damned one of these ideas are wrong. Perhaps because they were borne of haste?
Perhaps we could grant the same amount of time to the solution that we granted to the problem, but I guess that wouldn't be in time for the 2006 and 2008 elections.

I am very ashamed to say I used to be a big fan of Teddy Kennedy. Now he is spitting on the graves of John Lewis and Cesar Chavez and every other labor organizer who helped created the American middle class.

If one of us were to tresspass on one of the many, many Kennedy family compounds, in Florida or Martha's Vineyard or Hyanisport, etc., Teddy boy would have us arrested faster than he swam away from Mary Jo Kopechne.

Maybe he's just looking out for the Irish illegals. Maybe he just wants to protect some cheap servants he pays under the table. All I know is he's no longer a friend of working Americans.
