Sometimes when progressive talk starts blathering about celebrities or sports issues (WTH is Barry Bonds <--- rhetorical question!!) I switch away from AirAmerica and sometimes land on Liddy's radio program. He's a republican, isn't he? He seems more sensible than most, and Franken has him on occasionally. ?? I haven't heard THAT much of him. Opinions?

He was convicted of breaking into the Democratic National headquarters to plant bugs. It was a little scandal we like to call:

For his role in Watergate, which he coordinated with Hunt, Liddy was convicted of conspiracy, burglary and illegal wiretapping, and received a 20-year sentence. He served four and a half years in prison before his sentence was commuted by President Jimmy Carter.

Does seem a little strange, Kenny...I know about watergate, I know who Liddy is, I just don't know what his position is NOW. Why does Franken have him on his radio show. He's a repub, why doesn't he sound like Limbaugh? Do you ever listen to him? He doesn't seem terribly extreme.

I recall Franken saying he's a personal friend of Liddy, even though they have opposing ideologies.
I, personally, turn off the radio when Franken has him on.

I don't know. I remember reading an account by Mike Wallace in which Liddy appeared on 60 Minutes back in the mid-70s, and demanded payment for his appearance. Apparently an assasination was alluded to. I think the show even took a (then) unprecedented step and paid him for giving that little bit of nothing.

They made it into a pretty good movie.
I forget who played Barris, but Julia Roberts played the "mole".
George Clooney was also in it as Barris' CIA "handler".
I checked with my friend at NSA and he says the story is basically true.
Some people in the "intelligence community" think to this day, that Barris was actually the mole.
I can't repeat what he had to say about Liddy. It was NOT complimentary.
