There has been one more fatality in Afghanistan today. This occurred when an explosion was set off outside the building where VP Dick Cheney was meeting. There were 19 killed, including one American. No word on how many injuries there were. There also has not been an update on injuries in Afghanistan since December 2 of last year, so that is way overdue. I will post the name of the American killed when it becomes available. This brings the total number of American dead in Afghanistan to 371.

Mother, mother/ There's too many of you crying/ Brother, brother, brother/ There's far too many of you dying/ You know we've got to find a way/ To bring some lovin' here today -- Ya/ Father, father/ We don't need to escalate/ You see, war is not the answer/ For only love can conquer hate/ You know we've got to find a way/ To bring some loving' here today.

Three more have died and three more have been confirmed by the DOD. All fatalities with active DOD links have been confirmed by The Department of Defense. By my count there were 79 Americans killed in Iraq last month and five listed by the DOD so far this month. As I keep repeating, be sure to remember these 3169 in your reflections and prayers as you go about your business this weekend.

There have now been 23,785 Americans injured in Iraq with 13,250 being returned to duty within 72 hours and 10,535 being held off duty for at least three days. In addition there have been 6,835 Americans injured as the result of nonhostile causes. There have also been 18,704 Americans who have contracted diseases in Iraq and required air transport as a result. This gives us a total of 49,25 Americans who have been adversely affected by the war in Iraq. Many of those held off duty for over three days and a significant portion of those who have contracted diseases will suffer line-long sequelae as a result. Of course, this does not count the thousands who are now dealing with various stages and types of mental distresses as a result of their service in Iraq. Remember these along with those who have died in Iraq in your reflections and prayers.

I had to shake my head and rub my eyes this morning when I opened the DOD site and saw that there had been 12 more deaths of Americans in Iraq over the last 24 hours. Things are far from getting better in Iraq these days, and the surge isn't even at full strength yet. Now Bush is reiterating that he is "willing" to send thousands more Americans to Afghanistan to fight the resurgence of the Taleban and their anticipated offensive this spring. If I could speak to him face to face, I would ask him point blank just where he was going to find thousands more American forces to send to Afghanistan. This man has absolutely no concept of how things operate in the real world!

Dammit, Aleman that list keeps getting bigger not smaller. The Dems have to stop this train wreck any way they can. No more BS excuses.

If I had my way I would make it a felony to add another name to this list, although I know that is not possible. Unfortunately, there are three more to add today and one more confirmation. Updating this list is one of my regular daily routines that I could very well do without!

There have also been 23,924 Americans injured in Iraq as of the last injury update with 13297 of them returned to duty within 72 hours and 10627 held off duty for three days or longer. As I have mentioned previously, a large percentage of those held off duty for three days end up with permanent disabilities with many of them going through the disability determination process at Walter Reed Medical Center. For the record, 92 Americans were held off duty for 72 hours or longer last month so a fairly large number of those will end up in DC. Hopefully building 18 has been shut down, but that doesn't necessarily mean that accommodations in other billeting areas are all that much better.

Two more listed as having been killed in Iraq today with a couple more confirmations as well. In spite of having more Americans patrolling Baghdad and surrounding areas, there seems to have been no slowing in the number of dead bodies found in the capital and there are still many bombings and shootings daily. There have now been 24,042 Americans injured in Iraq with 13357 returned to duty within 72 hours and 10685 being held off duty for at least three days. I keep beating the drum that a high percentage of those who have off duty for three days or longer end up with permanent disabilities. So far this month there have been 150 Americans injured in Iraq that fall into that category. Remember these veterans and their families, many of whom will have a very hard time helping them to make the adjustments that will become a part of their daily lives.

Thanks for posting this K9Gal. This is quite a story and shows just how dangerous this surge is proving to be for many of our fine military men and women. I heard the "journalists" on Fox&Friends this morning state how well things were going as there were "only" six Americans killed in Iraq in the last 48 hours. It just goes to show how much they really support our forces!

I have fallen down on the job of updating this thread a couple of times lately due to trying to get a remodeling project at home wrapped up. Not a valid excuse when we are comparing electrical, plumbing, and painting to the loss of lives is it? At any rate, there have been five more listings and a few more confirmations made. Whenever I look at this list I have a vision of military officers in dress blues/whites showing up at a front door and the disbelief and horror that must be brought on by the news that they bring. I don't know what my reaction would be and I don't ever want to find out. My sincerest sympanthies reside with each and every member of the 3228 families that have had to undergo this unpleasant experience.

There have been another six additions to the list today and a few more confirmed. Please remember that just because I update this list on a regular basis does not mean that I enjoy spreading the bad news. I just feel that it falls upon me to continue to make sure that those who read this thread regularly have the most current information, and since nobody else posts these figures I must. I know that many posters continue to check this thread because of the increasing number of hits that keep accumulating daily. If there is a need for this information to be posted, I will consent to be the one to provide it.

Two days since I last checked in and two more deaths listed with no more confirmations made. One death a day is much better than what we had seen recently, but that is still too many to suit me. Remember to remember these fallen as well as the injured and their families in your daily prayers and reflections as you go about your normal Sunday activities.

Sometimes I forget to pray,
Cause I get self centered some days.

These deaths for me??
....are so sad....so
....I pray......

"Lord, I ask you to watch over those, and the families of those who have died in this war...please."

There have now been 24,314 Americans injured in Iraq, 13473 of whom were returned to duty within three days and 10841 who were held off duty for at least three days. During the last week there were 127 Americans injured with 58 returned to duty within 72 hours and 69 held off duty for at least three days. In the past there have been more Americans returned to duty after a short recuperative period than there were being held off duty for extended periods. Over the last month that trend has been reversed. I hope that is not becoming a new trend, but only time will tell.

Edmund McDonald's mother, Kathy McDonald, and her husband, John Williams, remember their son on Friday at their home in Casco. McDonald died in a vehicle accident in Afghanistan this week. His sister, Chris Cronin, stands behinds them. CASCO - Tears mingled with laughter Friday as Sgt. Edmund McDonald's large Irish clan pored over pictures they had gathered after learning of his death in Afghanistan.
What a hippie he is in that picture with that long hair! He always wanted to be from the 1970s.
Remember how impossible it was to wake him up?
He was so scared of heights, he wouldn't even climb up three rungs of a ladder, recalled the older of two cousins named Mike McDonald.
To his mother, it almost felt like he was in the room, smiling wider than everybody else.
"Ed's with us right now," said Kathy McDonald, who oversees a Head Start program in Casco. "Without Ed in our hearts, we wouldn't get through it."

Four more listings have been added since the last time I updated this list. It breaks my spirit whenever I have to share the deaths of yet more Americans in Iraq. This mission needs to be ended as quickly as possible and the fine men and women serving there should be broght home as soon as possible.

There have three more listings of deaths in Afghanistan by the DOD but the casualty site has only listed one more. The official listing stands at 376 while it was 375 before these three were added. The number of injured in Afghanistan has not been updated since December2, 2006. I would really like to know what is actually happening in the other war on terror.

Again this week there were more injured held off duty for at least three days than there were minor injuries who were able to be sent back to their units rapidly. We are just five days into April and already there have been 19 deaths in Iraq. Since I am posting now I will also update the fact that there has also been one more American death added to the DOD listing bringing the total to 3266 now.
