The
DOD has updated its information on those injured in Iraq. There have now been 22,562 Americans injured with 12,458 returned to duty within three days and 10,107 not being able to go back to their units for at least 72 hours. That makes 644 Americans injured this month in Iraq. The numbers continue to mount with now almost 50,000 Americans either killed, injured, or affected by diseases in Iraq. Remember all of these as you prepare to celebrate the beginning of a new year.

Happy New Year.
Im not sure who makes it number 3000, there were three deaths on the 30th listed yesterday and one of them.....will become known....as number 3000.
Ale, I do notice the list will change during the day, or night. Ive had my eye on it and have seen the numbers change often, recently.
Ok, I see what they did....it wasnt anyone dead on Dec 30....they did confirm a death from Dec 28th.

I've been so many places in my life and time,
I've sung a lot of songs,
I've made some bad rhyme,
I've acted out my life in stages,
with ten thousand people watching,
but we're alone now,
and I'm singing this song for you.
You taught me precious secrets of the truth
with holding nothing,
you came out in front when I was hiding,
but now I'm so much better,
and if my words don't come together,
listen to the melody, cause my love is in
there hiding.
I love you in a place where there's no space

I love you for my life,
you are a friend of mine,

I knew this was going to happen today even though I kept hoping against hope. Death number 3,000 needs to be reported widely and loudly, even though many will just decry that deed as just so much whining on the part of those radical fringe lefties. All Americans deserve to know just how heavy the toll is that has been levied on our country; even though this is only part of the story as we all know. I observed a moment of silence in reflection when I read this and will undoubtedly do so again later.

Idiot wind, blowing like a circle around my skull,
From the grand coulee dam to the capitol.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You're an idiot, babe.
It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe
I been double-crossed now for the very last time and now i'm finally free,
I kissed goodbye the howling beast on the borderline which separated you from me.
You'll never know the hurt i suffered nor the pain i rise above,
And i'll never know the same about you, your holiness or your kind of love,
And it makes me feel so sorry.
Idiot wind, blowing through the buttons of our coats,
Blowing through the letters that we wrote.
Idiot wind, blowing through the dust upon our shelves,
We're idiots, babe.
It's a wonder we can even feed ourselves.

There have now been 22,614 Americans injured in Iraq with 12572 of them returning to duty within three days of injury while 10142 had to be held off duty for at least 72 hours. A very large percentage of those staying off duty for at least three days were taken out of the country, although we don't have numbers on that as Landstuhl AFB in Germany does not give out those figures. 57 of the 164 injured last week fall into the greater than 72 hours category. As usual, my prayers are with these and their families.

http://www.memphisrap.com/community/article1163.htmlUS Army Sends Letter To Re-enlist Dead and Wounded SoldiersPosted on Saturday, January 06, 2007 @ 2:35 PM CST by admin
The US Army mistakenly sent letters to apparently 275 soliders where they invited them to re-enlist for military services, the US military issued in a statement on Friday.
The letter was sent to over 5,100 retired officers at the end of December, and for some reason the database that was used included the names of more than 75 families of deceased officers and 200 families of wounded officers according to the statement.
"Unfortunately, the database used to address those letters contained names of officers who were killed in action or wounded," the Army said. "Army personnel officials are contacting those officers' families now to personally apologize for erroneously sending the letters."
Well the Army kindly apologized for the mistake to all the families who had received the letter. Since then, they have said that the database has been updated removing those names.

....Hate to say it but I think this list is behind. I dont think they have updated it....I would think some pendings would be confirmed by now.
Actually, Rain, I haven't seen any comments of American deaths today on any of the other sites that I normally visit and read reports before they are posted to the DOD site (antiwar.com, buzzflash, guardian, UPI, Reuters, etc). For the time being, I will rejoice over the two days of no new listings and hope that I can say the same tomorrow at this time. Other parts of icasualties have been updated today, so unless the DOD is holding back for some reason, I will continue to check back there periodically; as I know you will.

You can hide `neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a savior to rise from these streets
Well now i'm no hero
That's understood
All the redemption i can offer, girl
Is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey what else can we do now?
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow
Back your hair
Well the night's busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back
Heaven's waiting on down the tracks
Oh-oh come take my hand
Riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh-oh thunder road, oh thunder road oh thunder road
Lying out there like a killer in the sun
Hey i know it's late we can make it if we run
Oh thunder road, sit tight take hold
Thunder road

Here is an update from Jeremiah's local paper. As noted in the article3, he lives on through his generous donation of organs for transplant. I am sure his wife is very proud of him and will rest easier knowing that his sacrifice ended up helping others. There is also a Christmas greeting that he made at the link site.

Two more names are added today and four of the previously listed are confirmed. Bush announced today that he will be making his "new direction forward" speech on Wednesday at 9:00 pm EST today. All indications are that he will formally announce his plan to "surge" (escalate) more troops into Iraq in order to quell the violence in and around Baghdad. Time to up the ante and make more like Jeremiah Johnson more vulnerable.

The other day Rainwater commented that she didn't think the DOD site had been updated in a couple of days and I remarked that I hadn't heard of any deaths over that period on other web sites. Sure enough the next update contained listings on those days. I hate to be a pessimist bit I think the same thing may be happening today. There has been an battle going on in downtown Baghdad involving "up to" 400 American forces which has been described as intensive. It had been stated that this battle lasted over 10 hours so I am sure that there will be American casualties involved. I also heard that the 3rd Stryker Brigade headquarted at Ft. Lewis, WA was the primary unit involved so I really don't want to see any casualty reports. All I can do is my usual: Pray that all of our forces are safe and return home uninjured and (as we used to say in Boy Scouts) in better condition than when they left.

Two more have been added to the list today. I read in this morning's paper that there were no American or Iraqi security forces casualties in the 10+ hour battle in downtown Baghdad yesteray. While I am certainly glad to hear that, I don't know whether I totally believe it or not. Ten plus hours is a long time for 400 Americans and 500 Iraqi security forces to be in a heated exchange of gunfire and not sustain any loss of life or injury. I guess we will just have to wait and observe the postings over the next few days and see for sure.

Lights out tonight,
Trouble in the heartland,
Got a head on collision,
Smashin' in my guts, man,
I'm caught in a cross fire,
That I don't understand,
I don't give a damn,
for the same old played out scenes,
I don't give a damn,
for just the in betweens,
Honey, I want the heart, I want the soul,
I want control right now
Talk about a dream,
try to make it real
You wake up in the night,
with a fear so real,
Spend your life waiting,
for a moment that just don't come,
Well, don't waste your time waiting,
Badlands, you gotta live it everyday,
Let the broken hearts stand
As the price you've gotta pay,
We'll keep pushin' till it's understood,
and these badlands start treating us good.

We now have a total of 22,834 Americans injured in Iraq with 12,643 of them returned to duty within 72 hours while 10,191 have been held off duty for at least three days, a large number of those requiring transport and treatment out of Iraq. Beyond this there have been 6,640 Americans injured by non-hostile causes, 18,183 requiring air transport because of diseases contracted in Iraq. This brings us to a total of 47,657 nonfatal injuries and injected by disease in Iraq so far.

There have been no new listings today, which I am definitely happy about. I also noticed that the Afghanistan listings have not had any new deaths or injuries listed and that site hasn't been updated since December 2, 2006. While I know there is less action in Afghanistan, I don't think that it is safe to say that there have not been any injuries in that theater of operations. Does anybody have any newer information than they post at
