I saw myself as you knew me
When the change came,
And you had a
Chance to see through me
Though the other side is just the same
You can tell my dream is real
Because i love you, can you see me now.

When the dream came
I held my breath with my eyes closed
I went insane,
Like a smoke ring day
When the wind blows
Now i won't be back till later on
If i do come back at all
But you know me, and i miss you now.

Richard Perle--“I believe demolishing Hussein’s military power and liberating Iraq would be a cakewalk....It was a cakewalk last time.."
General Richard B. Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, serenely anticipated “a short, short conflict.
Vice-President Cheney said that the war would go “relatively quickly,” and that American troops would be “greeted as liberators.” He went on, when asked if the fighting might prove to be long, costly, and bloody, “Well, I don’t think it’s likely to unfold that way.”

Perle, still a Defense Policy Board member chairman, predicted on the eve of the war that it would last no longer than three weeks, adding, “And there is a good chance that it will be less than that.” Last summer, he declared that “support for Saddam, including within his military organization, will collapse at the first whiff of gunpowder.” In the February 24th issue of National Review, David Frum, the former “axis of evil” White House speechwriter, wrote that “the Iraq fight itself is probably going to go very, very fast. The shooting should be over within just a very few days from when it starts.”

There are more. There are two more, tho DoD has only posted one.

Hey, look yonder, tell me what you see
Marching to the fields of Vietnam?
It looks like Handsome Johnny with an M15,
Marching to the Vietnam war, hey marching to the Vietnam war.

Hey, look yonder, tell me what you see
Marching to the fields of Birmingham?
It looks like Handsome Johnny with his hand rolled in a fist,
Marching to the Birmingham war, hey marching to the Birmingham war.

Hey, it's a long hard road, it's a long hard road,
It's a long hard road, before we'll be free.

Hey, what's the use of singing this song, some of you are not even listening.
Tell me what it is we've got to do: wait for our fields to start glistening,
Wait for the bullets to start whistling.
Here comes a hydrogen bomb, here comes a guided missile,
Here comes a hydrogen bomb: I can almost hear its whistle.

The summer had inhaled
And held its breath too long.
The winter looked the same,
As if it had never gone,
And through an open window,
Where no curtain hung,
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

One begins to read between
The pages of a look.
The sound of sleepy music,
And suddenly, you're hooked.
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

You came to stay and live my way,
Scatter my love like leaves in the wind.
You always say that you won't go away,
But I know what it always has been,
It always has been.

A transparent dream
Beneath an occasional sigh
Most of the time,
I just let it go by.
Now I wish it hadn't begun.
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

Strolling the hill,
Overlooking the shore,
I realize I've been here before.
The shadow in the mist
Could have been anyone
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

Small things like reasons
Are put in a jar.
Whatever happened to wishes,
Wished on a star?
Was it just something
That I made up for fun?
I saw you, I saw you,
Coming back to me.

Cloudy waters cast no reflection
Images of beauty lie there stagnant
Vibrations bounce in no direction
And lie there shattered into fragments.

Young girls are coming to the canyon
And in the morning I can see them walking
I can no longer keep my blinds drawn
And I can't keep myself from talking.

Long as i remember the rain been comin' down.
Clouds of myst'ry pourin' confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, tryin' to find the sun;
And i wonder, still i wonder, who'll stop the rain.

I went down virginia, seekin' shelter from the storm.
Caught up in the fable, i watched the tower grow.
Five year plans and new deals, wrapped in golden chains.
And i wonder, still i wonder who'll stop the rain.

Heard the singers playin', how we cheered for more.
The crowd had rushed together, tryin' to keep warm.
Still the rain kept pourin', fallin' on my ears.
And i wonder, still i wonder who'll stop the rain.

But tell me, where do the children play?

Well you've cracked the sky, scrapers fill the air.
But will you keep on building higher
'til there's no more room up there?
Will you make us laugh, will you make us cry?
Will you tell us when to live, will you tell us when to die?

But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest was

I heard on the way home today that the total is now 101 and that this is the 4th costliest month for American lives since we entered Iraq. What will it take before the current DC cabal admits that we have paid far too high a toll and that it is past time for the Iraqis to step to the fore and take the lead? They have told us 12-18 months but there were three surveys released yesterday stating that there are many missing weapons that should be in the hands of Iraqi security forces, the infrastructure is not being developed rapidly enough and the institutions they need to stand on their own are way behind schedule in developing. For a while I thought Bush was going to try to get out of Iraq and beat his statement that it would be up to the next president to bring this to an end. Now it is apparent that the next president will be saddled with this nightmare unless congress can force his hand.

Unfortunately, if you discuss anything going on in Iraq seriously you are painted as an "appeaser", "confused", "uninformed", "not supporting our troops", or any one of a number of other not so nice things. Forget the facts. Just turn your head and the bad dream will go away. Meanwhile our infotainment-based 24/7 cable "news" outlets lead with whatever story will get the greatest shock value and ratings support. In our newspapers the Iraq story is buried somewhere away from page one and any mention of American casualties is made in one of the last three paragraphs, following all the news of Iraqi civilians beheaded, bound and shot, and left throughout the city for others to find; news of IED explosions; news of kidnapped Iraqi police candidates; assisination attempts on Iraqi political leaders; reports of unofficial Iraqi death squads; and failures/controversies surrounding the Iraq legislature, president, and prime minister. American deaths just don't seem to mean that much to our media in America any longer, unless they come in waves or in a month-long gushing river. There have now been 346 Americans killed in Afghanistan and 962 injured there. 1297 have been trensported by air after having recieved nonhostile injuries and 3470 have been transported after contracting diseases in Afghanistan.

There have been 21,419 injured in Iraq with 11682 returned to duty within 72 hours and 9737 requiring treatment that lasted over 3 days. There were 951 Americans injured in Iraq during October. If you apply the figure of 1 in every three injuries in Iraq resulting in permanent disability (as has been variously reported in the press over the last couple of years), you come up with 314 permanently disabled Americans, many of whom will require a lifetime of treatment just from October. If you apply that 1 in 3 figure to all those injured so far in Iraq, you come up with 7,139 Americans with permanent disabilities since March, 2003. Just pointing out another hidden cost of this war which we and our children will bear for the next 70-80 years.

The official total for October was 105 American dead, making it the fourth deadliest month for Americans in Iraq. The media is back to the same old tricks of not reporting Americans dying in Iraq in a manner that would let us know that they really supported our troops. The Iraq article in the paper today appears on page 4 and is titled "Gunmen sieze coach, official" This an Associated Press story that talks about how a blind Sunni coach and Sunni official were kidnapped and driven off in an SUV. There is then a discussion of 23 found dead around the country and more talk of the sectarian violence that grips Iraq. Then the AP writer finds it in their heart to mention in the last two sentences that two Americans did in alAnbar province and that 105 died in October in Iraq. I sure am glad we support our troops, for if we didn't you have to wonder who would!

I do take solice in the fact that for the first time in months, when I opened http://icasualties.org/oif/BY_DOD.aspx there were no new listings added! Of course it has only been 13 hours since I last posted, but thank God for small miracles!

QUOTE(aleman1948 @ Nov 2 2006, 01:41 PM) *

Oops! I guess I got too confident in my proclamation that there had been no new additions to the list today. It looks like there are actually three more today. It is certainly not appropriate that they fell on All Souls Day, but we can and should take this opportunity to pray for the souls of all the fallen. I already have and hope that you will as well.

Yet another four new additions to the list. It looks like instead of the end of a nasty month, there was a brief respite before the insurgency of "last throes" resumed its activity. All Souls Day is over, but that does not mean it is inappropriate to pray for the sound rest with our Lord for the departed and that he cradle those left behind in his loving care.

After a brief respite, it looks like things have heated up again this month. Eleven so far in two days. With Ramadan over, I hope that things slow down as they have in past years, but I am not going to hold my breath. Remember to pray for these and their loved ones and add on an extra prayer for a swift resolution to this festering mess.

No new names added yet today but one more confirmed. Maybe I am just checking in too often as I am used to the pace that was set in October and things have (hopefully) slowed a bit this month. I don't know if I will get a chance to check again later as I am off to do some campaign work today then will be having two nephews over to spend the night (4 and 2 years old) and we all know what a handful that can be!

The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'till I'm sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Miles from nowhere
I guess i'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there

Look up at the mountain
I have to climb
Oh yeah, to reach there.

Lord my body has been a good friend
But i won't need it when i reach the end

Miles from nowhere
Guess i'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there

I creep through the valleys
And i grope through the woods
'cause i know when i find it my honey
It's gonna make me feel good

I love everything
So don't it make you feel sad
'cause i'll drink to you, my baby
I'll think to that, i'll think to that.

Miles from nowhere
Not a soul in sight
Oh yeah, but it's alright

I have my freedom
I can make my own rules
Oh yeah, the ones that i choose

Lord my body has been a good friend
But i won't need it when i reach the end

Miles from nowhere
Guess i'll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there.

Here it is the wee hours of November 6 and we are already up to 17 this month. Not quite as hectic as last month's 105 but still on pace for 85 this month if this pace keeps up. Lord, please bless those who have fallen and shower those left behind with your blessings and indulgences that they may be able to face the trials that lie ahead.

Over 300 G.I. casulties: Forward Base Falcon Disaster
by B.Harring Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 at 3:24 AM

Over 300 American troops, including U.S. Army and Marines, CIA agents and U.S. translators were casualties and there also were 165 seriously injured requiring major medical attention and 39 suffering lesser injuries 122 members of the Iraqi armed forces were killed and 90 seriously injured members of same, were also evacuated to the U.S. military hospital at al-Habbaniyah located some 70km west of Baghdad.

The list:
Official Casualty List from U.S. military hospital at al-Habbaniyah located some 70km west of Baghdad. U.S. medical personnel at al-Habbaniyah initially stated that the US military hospital at the massive American-occupied air base there had begun to receive dead and wounded personnel. The military hospital in al-Habbaniyah, the largest in occupied Iraq, was opened on 12 May this year in response to sharply rising (and redacted) US casualties.

The list:
I am hoping this is not true, but my heart tells me that there is a good chance that we are being lied to again. Let's all pray that it is not true, but get ready to accept the worst.

Did did did did you see the frightened ones?
Did did did did you hear the falling bombs?
Did did did did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter
When the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?

Ooooooooh ooo ooooo oooh

Did did did did you see the frightened ones?
Did did did did you hear the falling bombs?
The flames are all long gone but the pain lingers on!

Goodbye blue sky
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye

Little ditty about jack and diane
Two american kids growin´ up in the heartland
Jackie´s gonna be a football star
Diane debutante backseat of jackie´s car

Oh yeah life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin´ is gone
Oh yeah life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin´ is gone

Gonna let it rock
Let it roll
Let the bible belt come down
And save my soul
Hold on to 16 as lang as you can
Changes comin´ round real soon
Make us women and men

Little ditty about jack and diane
Two american kids doin´ the best they can

While we were focused yesterday on, shall we say, more domestic issues, we lost two more in Iraq. Thankfully we took over the House and gained ground in the Senate, so now maybe we can begin to have a real dialogue about the alternatives to staying the course and turning the corner so we can start to see a way to bring our brave forces home.

More names have been released and confirmed with no new listings. It has been less than 24 hours since my last post, so I won't jinx this by stating that it has been a full day with no new listings. Lord accept these brave Americans into your loving arms and grant lasting peace to those that they have left behind.

I can finally say that there has been one full day without any American casualties in Iraq! No new listings today and another one of the listings named and verified. Thank you Lord for honoring one of my requests (whether it was my prayers that resulted in this day or not!) I will continue to pray for another day with the same results.

Well i started out down a dirty road
Started out all alone
And the sun went down as i crossed the hill
The town lit up the world got still

I'm learning to fly but i ain't got wings
Comin' down is the hardest thing

Well the good old days may not return
And the rocks might melt, and the sea may burn

I'm learning to fly but i ain't got wings
Comin' down is the hardest thing

I was really sorry to check in here and find three new additions today. Oh well, it was nice having at least one day without any new listings.

Unfortunately it looks like the brief respite we had is over. To more listings today to go along with the three yesterday are not good news for anybody. While we are still not adding to this list at the same pace we were last month, it is still growing too rapidly to suit me.

There have now been 21,572 Americans injured in Iraq, with 6,557 of them seriously wounded enough to require air transport. There have also been 6,570 who were injured as a result of non-hostile action that required air transport. Add another 17,995 who have contracted diseases serious enought to require medical transport and you come up with a grand total of 46,137 Americans who have been injured or contracted disease by virtue of their presence in Iraq. This war is exacting a huge toll on our society. It is certainly more than the "minute" characterization that Rupert Murdoch labeled the number of Americans who have suffered physically or given up their lives. I know that if any of you are acquainted with any of these injured, their families, or the families of those who have died you are going out of your way to comfort and assist them. Thankfully, I don't personally know any of these, but I am sure that there are some who avail themselves to our services at the local food bank where I volunteer.
aleman
There have now been 962 Americans injured in Afghanistan with 589 of them requiring air transport. There have been 1,297 injured there as the result of non-hostile actions. 3,470 Americans have contracted diseases that required them to be airlifted. This means that there have been 5,729 Americans who have had adverse reactions to the war in Afghanistan along with the 350 who have died there.

When you add these to the 46,137 who have been injured in Iraq you come up with 51,866, which is quite a sizeable number of Americans who have had more than just a minor inconvenience of being deployed into a war zone and living day to day with the knowledge that each day could be their last. We are the lucky ones. We have had to sacrifice nothing.
aleman
Four more added to the list now, for an even 30 so far this month. It is good that the pace has slacked off from what was being recorded last month and up to the elections last week, but 10 in four days is still way too many. Please join me in a moment of silence in memory of these wonderful Americans who have given all they had.
