In my dream the pipes were playing
In my dream I lost a friend
Come down Gabriel and blow your horn
'Cause some day we will meet again..

Fallen Angel
Casts a shadow up against the sun
If my eyes could see
The spirit of the chosen one....

If you're out there can you touch me
Can you see me I don't know
If you're out there can you reach me
Lay a flower in the snow
(Fallen Angel, Robbie Robertson)

[QUOTE]MATTHEWS: What's the importance of the president's amazing display of leadership tonight?

[...]

MATTHEWS: What do you make of the actual visual that people will see on TV and probably, as you know, as well as I, will remember a lot longer than words spoken tonight? And that's the president looking very much like a jet, you know, a high-flying jet star. A guy who is a jet pilot. Has been in the past when he was younger, obviously. What does that image mean to the American people, a guy who can actually get into a supersonic plane and actually fly in an unpressurized cabin like an actual jet pilot?

[...]

MATTHEWS: Do you think this role, and I want to talk politically [...], the president deserves everything he's doing tonight in terms of his leadership. He won the war. He was an effective commander. Everybody recognizes that, I believe, except a few critics. Do you think he is defining the office of the presidency, at least for this time, as basically that of commander in chief? That [...] if you're going to run against him, you'd better be ready to take [that] away from him.

[...]

MATTHEWS: Let me ask you, Bob Dornan, you were a congressman all those years. Here's a president who's really nonverbal. He's like Eisenhower. He looks great in a military uniform. He looks great in that cowboy costume he wears when he goes West. I remember him standing at that fence with Colin Powell. Was [that] the best picture in the 2000 campaign?

[...]

MATTHEWS: Ann Coulter, you're the first to speak tonight on the buzz. The president's performance tonight, redolent of the best of Reagan -- what do you think?

COULTER: It's stunning. It's amazing. I think it's huge. I mean, he's landing on a boat at 150 miles per hour. It's tremendous. It's hard to imagine any Democrat being able to do that. And it doesn't matter if Democrats try to ridicule it. It's stunning, and it speaks for itself.

MATTHEWS: Pat Caddell, the president's performance tonight on television, his arrival on ship?

CADDELL: Well, first of all, Chris, the -- I think that -- you know, I was -- when I first heard about it, I was kind of annoyed. It sounded like the kind of PR stunt that Bill Clinton would pull. But and then I saw it. And you know, there's a real -- there's a real affection between him and the troops.

[...]

MATTHEWS: The president there -- look at this guy! We're watching him. He looks like he flew the plane. He only flew it as a passenger, but he's flown --

CADDELL: He looks like a fighter pilot.

MATTHEWS: He looks for real. What is it about the commander in chief role, the hat that he does wear, that makes him -- I mean, he seems like -- he didn't fight in a war, but he looks like he does. (I'm not a hero but i play one on TV??)

CADDELL: Yes. It's a -- I don't know. You know, it's an internal thing. I don't know if you can put it into words. [...] You can see it with him and the troops, the ease with which he talks to them. I was amazed by that, frankly, because as I said, I was originally appalled, particularly when I heard he was going in an F-18. But -- on there -- but the -- but you know, that was --

MATTHEWS: Look at this guy!

CADDELL: -- was hard not to be moved by their reaction to him and his reaction to them and --

MATTHEWS: You know, Ann --

CADDELL: -- you know, they -- it's a quality. It's an innate quality. It's a real quality.

MATTHEWS: I know. I think you're right.

It's been 1092 days since that "spectacle", during which time Bush's approval rating has continuously slipped and thousands more of our braves have died or been permanently disabled. Matthews still acts as though Bush is revered by the people. I think he must live in the same bubble that encloses our favorite (NOT!) bubble boy.

1093 days of a pretend Texas cowboy wearing a 10-gallon hat filled with 9.9 gallons of pure b*llsh*t, hopelessly lost but still trying to lead us. Approaching 1100 days since he stated "mission accomplished" and we are in deeper sh*t now than we were those many days ago. Approaching 2400 dead and by now over 17,500 injured, many for life. Now this story is buried on page 5 or 6 while everybody whines about their pocketbooks and forgets about the pain and suffering endured by the 10's of thousands of families who have either lost their loved ones or are caring for them as they recuperate, only to live life absent important body parts and try to carry on as if there were nothing wrong. Many more thousands of returned veterans with no obvious injuries and their families await a ticking time bomb when the mental afflictions will manifest themselves in most inappropriate manners. We wait and watch as many are shipped to Iraq for the first time, not knowing what to expect but having seen their peers return much changed from that long ago time before this mess engulfed us all. Many more are returning to the battle for a second, or third time, hoping that things are better now than on the previous tours but finding alas that things have changed, but not necessarily for the better. Many mistakes have been made, but few have been acknowledged and many have still not been corrected. Please, somebody step forward and lead us from this unholy hell that lies beneath the surface, buried on page 5 or 6 but still boiling and making us all a little more than uneasy. Whoever you are that can help us end this nightmare, please do so quickly so that our brothers, fathers, sons, uncles, nephews, cousins, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, and nieces can return to our loving arms to begin the healing process that we all long for so deeply.

One more has departed in the name of "freedom" We have to remember that every one that passes leaves behind at least one family (if they are unmarried) several families (if they are married). Our prayers go out for the souls of the dearly departed and all of those who they have left behind to carry on in their names.

Another sad milestone has been reached in this war. We dare not bring it to the attention of the righties lest we be accused of only pointing out the bad things happening in Iraq and ignoring the good. Thanks for keeping this alive, rain. It looks like you and I are the only ones who regularly check in and pay tribute to our fallen heroes.

A good site that I visit fairly often just to see what we have spent so far, off the budget of course. Also a good source to check and see what we could have been doing with all of those billions instead of waging war. Thanx, ran.

It is simply mindblowing how fast that counter registers those thousands of dollars going by. The sad part is that this counter does not count the interest that must be paid on a significant portion of it, if not all of it since it is off the budget and must be floated out in loan form.

Thank you lenzy for helping us make these men and women real human beings rather than just numbers! When people understand that we are talking about parents, sons/daughters, brothers/sister, friends it helps them to understand that these are real lives, not just numbers.

Remember friends that this is the third anniversary (1095 days) since we were told that "major hostilities" had ceased and that "combat operatios" were completed. Happy May Day all. Make sure you take time for some silent reflection in order to restore perspective to what has transpired during the last three years and to give thanks to those who have either lost their lives or loved ones in pursuit of "freedom" for Iraq.

As the money counter ticks by, the Causualty counter ticks by at a more alarming rate, knowing the pain and anquish that those families, friends and just every American Patriot who knows the pains of war feel each and evey day as I stand silently reading the names of those who have fallen, and those who are forever changed in both body and mind....
The anguish I feel for our Nation, which now is more divided than ever, with no healing visible in the future.. Where are our leaders, where are our statesmen and stateswomen of vision, have we forever lost our moral compass, has the light of the American Dream been dimmed forever, and will the next generations look back at how we squandered hope and loose the optimism of a bright future. I HOPE NOT, but I am loosing mine....

DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

U.S. marks third anniversary since 'Mission Accomplished' speech

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/05/01/iraq.poll/index.html

3 years since the mission was accomplished.
3 years seems like a long time to be hanging out after the mission was accomplished.

P.S. The situation in Iraq is different that that of Germany, South Korea and Japan so save it.....

Title: See That My Grave Is Kept Clean

(first release¡ºblind lemon jefferson)

Well there's one kind of favor i'll ask for you
Well there's one kind of favor i'll ask for you
There's just one kind of favor i'll ask for you
You can see that my grave is kept clean.

And there's two white horses following me
And there's two white horses following me
I got two white horses following me
Waiting on my burying ground.

Did you ever hear that coffin sound
Did you ever hear that coffin sound
Did you ever hear that coffin sound
Means another poor boy is underground.

Did you ever hear them church bells toll

Did you ever hear them church bells toll
Did you ever hear them church bells toll
Means another poor boy is dead and gone.

And my heart stopped beating and my hands turned cold
And my heart stopped beating and my hands turned cold
And my heart stopped beating and my hands turned cold
Now i believe what the bible told.

There's just one last favor i'll ask for you
And there's one last favor i'll ask for you
There's just one last favor i'll ask for you
See that my grave is kept clean.

Just so we don't forget, this site also shows 4585 Iraqi security forces/police and 8676 Iraqi civilians documented as killed in 2005. There have been 704 Iraqi security forces/police killed so far this year and 2989 civilians killed through the end of April.

Very appropriate song lyrics, rain.

It looks like we have lost another couple of brave Americans to whom we owe an eternal debt of gratitude. May they rest in peace and their families find solace in their passing. Pray for their weary souls.

Title: Souvenirs

Here is a poem
That my lady sent down
Some morning while
I was away.
Wrote on the back of
A leaf that she found
Somewhere around Monterey.

And here is the key
To a house far away
Where I used to live
As a child.
They tore down the building
When I moved away
And left the key unreconciled.

And down in the canyon
The smoke starts to rise.
It rides on the wind
Till it reaches your eyes.
When faced with the past
The strongest man cries...cries.

And here is a sunrise
To set on your sill.
The ghosts of the dawn
Moving near.
They pass through your sorrow
And leave you quite still...
Sitting among souvenirs.

The mention of American casualties this morning was on page 4 of my local paper, consisted of a single sentence, and was buried in a half-age story about terrorist suicide bombings in Iraq. Our media simply does not seem to care that Americans are dying in Iraq any longer. This is a disgrace which I have been writing to the editors about on a daily basis for the last month and have not received any acknowledgement. "Liberal" media indeed!

Title: The Long Way

She was lost
And I thought I was found
Even so I tried
To bring her in...

She was young
And I had just begun
To learn that even
Losing men can win.

We went the long way
We went the long way
We went the long way...
Or maybe just the wrong way
I'll never know.

Six more added to the talley yesterday, and the AP saw fit not to mention that fact in their daily coverage of the Iraq war. Is there something wrong with this picture? Why is the MSM so afraid of bringing us the facts on what is happening in Iraq? Are they that afraid of being accused of only bringing us the bad news and not peppering us with the positive happenings in Iraq? Our media is letting us down and the administration is laughing in the back room safely out of view of probing eyes.

All Along The Watchtower

"there must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief,
"there's too much confusion, i can't get no relief.
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."

"no reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke,
"there are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and i, we've been through that, and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."

There were three deaths that day. How come you have four different names.

.....some are KIA and ID'd immediately, some are KIA and pending for a long time...I try to make sure all pendings have their name shown when confirmed, even if they appeared as a pending.

And some days Ale and I cross.....its a ritual for both of us.

Right! We both like to keep abreast of the latest toll totals as our way of honoring these brave Americans. The least we can do is post their names. After all, they gave us everything they had.

BTW this was day 1100 since Mission Accomplished.

According to this site http://icasualties.org/oif/woundedchart.aspx there have not been any of our forces injured since the beginning of April. I wonder what the real total is now. They say 17,469.

Here is a more up to date total of wounded, provided by the same website on their home page. It looks like 17,874 have been wounded with 8194 not being able to return to duty within 72 hours. I wonder how many have sustained life-long injuries out of that 8194. You have to scroll down and you will see the totals in the box on the left hand side of the page.

...RWrs would rather not think about this.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

....this count also does not show those dying in Afghanistan; 10 Marines lost in a chinook crash on the 7th:
05/07/06 AP: Soldiers in Afghan Crash From Fort Drum
The 10 soldiers killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan were based at Fort Drum, a military spokesman said. The crash Friday was the deadliest for U.S. forces in Afghanistan in a year.

Aleman and I are doing the best we can with this, but the numbers are too sloppy and scattered....so many different "operations".... dry.gif
and btw, Ive tried to get formal names etc on the Afghan "Ops" but there dont seem to be many, or any....they are seperate for sum reezun.
