...'more than six months'?....
i know 100% VA disabled vets, more than one....who have waited over four years for a ODAR judge ruling for their SSd benefits.
...four years.
many judges in colorado are under pressure to avoid rulings favorably for the veterans.

Disabled Veterans and the Wait for Disability Benefits to begin
Here are some statistics I found fairly compelling: more than six hundred thousand veterans are waiting to have their disability benefits started and they wait, on average, more than six months for their benefits.
...what does "more than six months" mean? It would have been better to state (had the writer had access to more statistical information) which percentage were still waiting for their benefits at the 9 month mark, 12 month mark, and so on.
The truth is, the federal government does not view the awarding of disability benefits as anything other than a burden, one that they would prefer to minimize their responsibility to deliver on. Is it a responsibility? I would say it certainly is, a solemn one. Individuals in the military volunteer for service with the assumption that they will receive fair consideration in the event they become disabled.

QUOTE
Veterans Sue for Faster Disability Rulings
Nov 10th, 2008
by Tomasz Stasiuk.

The lawsuit, filed by the Vietnam Veterans of America and Veterans of Modern Warfare in U.S. District Court in Washington, seeks to force the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide an initial ruling on every veterans claim for disability benefits within 90 days and to resolve appeals within 180 days.
The veterans’ groups also are seeking interim benefits for veterans whose claim rulings take longer than those time periods.

Don’t you wish someone would do this with the Social Security Administration?

Vets Describe Long Waits For Disability Benefits
Yes, it does take forever to get your VA disability rating. My husband served this great country for 24 years and retired June 1, 2007. He received his disability rating, but incorrectly the first time. We had to resubmit paperwork that the VA had overlooked. This cost us more time financially.
To date, we still have not received one red cent in back pay for his disability. Original paperwork was filed in June 2007. My husband re-filed his paperwork last September. He received his disability rating in January but still has not seen any back pay. When you call to inquire, we are told that it could take up to three or more years...

January 14, 2008
An e-mail distributed to Social Security employees:
I wanted all of you to know that the CBS Evening News is doing a two-part investigative series on the disability backlog tonight and tomorrow night.
Part of what CBS will report is precisely what I told Congress in May of last year. I testified, "The length of time many people wait for their final disability decision is unacceptable. Further I said, "For some, the long wait for their day in court leads to homelessness and the loss of family and friends. Sadly, people have died waiting for a hearing."

Social Security Disability Backlog
The growing social security disability appeals backlog has been the topic of much recent debate. Currently, nearly 750,000 claimants are awaiting a hearing, the waiting time for which ranges from 17 to 31 months.
SSA officials cite “severe budgetary constraints” and shortages in staffing.

support the veterans.
...rii-ght.

http://www.frontiernet.net/~lindaf1/SOCIAL...YNIGHTMARE.html
Veterans and the millions of other disabled Americans, encounter their next experience with the Federal government as they apply for their SSDI/SSI benefits. Little or nothing is heard about the service men and women who are injured and have to go through this nightmare to get their SSDI benefits, in addition to their struggles with the VA. Horrible treatment for those who give of their lives to protect our country. We are all being abused at the hands of our government, and to date our cries for help have continually been ignored. This apathetic attitude of our elected officials is not only unacceptable, but it is criminally negligent, behavior, and they need to be held responsible for it. We elected them, trusting that they would protect, serve us and be there in our time of need, but sad to say they have failed miserably at their jobs, doing us a grave injustice in this area. It’s time that they speak out about the crimes being committed against their constituents, and create the legislation needed to correct decades of abuse and corruption of this Federal program...yet the current Social Security Disability program preys on the weak, and decimates the disabled population even further....

Permanent Devastation Resulting From The SSDI Claims Process
Unbearable stress, severe depression and suicidal thoughts are very common side effects of the disability claims process. I know this not only from my own personal experience, but from thousands of others that have contacted me to relate their personal experiences with the SSDI claims process. The abuse and worry that applicants are forced to endure, causes even further irreparable damage to their already compromised health, and is totally unacceptable. Due to the total devastation on their lives and health as a result of the SSDI claims process, use of the SS Ticket to Work program, or any future chance of possibly getting well enough to return to the work force, even on a part time basis, becomes totally out of the question. Plus there is always the stress of having to deal with the SS Continuing Disability Review Process every few years, where the threat of having your benefits suddenly cut off constantly hangs over your head.

I keep telling ya Rainy, move to Oregon's 4th Congressional District and I'll get Congress' "junk yard dog" (D-Peter DeFazio) working on your situation. He got my disability claim approved in under 6 months.
Once you get it approved, you can always move somewhere else.
(4th District: Lane, Linn, Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties and parts of Benton and Josephine counties)

I know.
But if I invite ALL Vets to move to the 4th CD, things might get pretty crowded.
I want to take care of all Vets, but since I have to start somewhere, I'll start with my friends.
(And the delay in your case is particularly egregious.)
