I've been listening to this crazy crap about how important it was for the Republicans to win the gubernatorial races in VA and NJ. Maybe I have it all wrong, but these governors aren't going to have much impact on the rest of the country. The real power rests in Congress, where political affiliation means something when the votes are being counted.... Sallie -------------------- "Nature abhors a moron" - HL Mencken

Well, the RRW focused on DeDe Scozzafava and drove her out of the race with their lies about her support of delivery-day abortion. So, they got Doug Hoffman, as bewildered an individual as it's ever been my misfortune to view. Scozzafava, to her credit, recognized the source of the smear campaign against her and threw her support to Bill Owens. Dede's problem was that she is a true Republican in a world of RINOs. I'm convinced that Doug Hoffman is relieved by his defeat. He consistently insisted that he didn't want to be elected and has been often quoted as saying that he had no plan whatsoever to represent the people of New York State's 23rd District. He was just roped into the role of candidate for no reason he can ascertain. Well, thank whatever gods may be, the voters weren't buying it. My mother, I'm sure, voted for Hoffman, just as she voted for John McCain last year. She's easily persuaded by anyone but me. She, like other closet conservatives, appears to go along with a well-reasoned argument, then votes out of fear. You can't even begin to understand what these fears are. Somebody pushed the right buttons. For that reason, if Bill Owens emerges from this with the most votes, I'll have to re-think my opinion of the people in NYS's 23rd Congressional District. Maybe they're not all as dumb as my personal contacts have led me to believe.... Sallie You always hit the nail on the head! -------------------- It's much harder to be a liberal than a conservative. Looks like the tea-baggers didn't know what was best for the New York Republican Party. They just lost a seat for the Republicans. Both of the gubernatorial Republicans that ran tonight rejected the tea-baggers and ran as moderates. Do you think the right will learn a lesson from this, and reject the far-right nutcases? Of course not. GoU Short term losses (1 year) for long term gains are ok with me. I do believe that most of these so called moderate Republicans will be moving to the right over the next year and certainly by 2012 because before all else all politicians are out to be reelected and i believe that Republicans in office now see that if they dont move to the right the right will sit the next election out. -------------------- the 14th Amendment is about this?

None of the Moderate Republicans I've spoken with share your opinion. They hate the RRW and all it stands for. They are lost and feel that their party has deserted them. The chances that these people will cross over to that dark side are slim. They just want the GOP back. As Thom Hartmann points out, both parties have been corrupted - either by corporatists or a highly vocal (although few in number) fringe. There's a vast area of common ground that at one time could have been entered by both parties. We've succeeded in putting up razorwire-tipped fences around that minefield that once was common ground, declaring it off limits with virtual signs that say, "Enter At Your Own Risk!" There can be no moderation when no one dares to go there.... Sallie -------------------- "Nature abhors a moron" - HL Mencken

GoU We shall see in a short time. how many seats are the Dems going to lose in 2010 Go. I say between 25 and 30 if things dont improve and I dont mean improve on paper because I have heard for months now that things are better we are out of the resession, but I still see another 500,000 a week losing their jobs even while we are told that the administration has SAVED a million jobs. I told you that the politicians would screw up the stimulas with their pork and bull**** projects instead of like FDR who put people to work at jobs that everyone got to see at the movies each week Where are the roads, bridges buildings, Hospitals, clinics. You know The things people can see!!! Not 300,000 to equip airplanes to detect radio active rabbit turds. First, allow me to send my congratulates to Mr Owens for his win.
I can't believe the nonsense coming out of Palin's and Steele's mouth about the outcome. Silly spin. -------------------- The Veltronis ‘Si puo fare!’ (‘Yes we can!’) in Support for Obama |
