QUOTE(BluesOutback @ May 8 2007, 09:02 AM)

As an incidental question: Are there band members in the military & in Iraq?

Yes, Outback, there are. I imagine every band in the nation has members over there. Indians are always the first ones to sign up, whether the war is right or wrong. It's our nature, I guess. I have nephews who have been there and back. My son is in National Guard and may be deployed soon. Our tribal members have fought along side US forces for some time now. I never had the privilage. My dad was in WWII, brother-in-laws in Vietnam. You know, like everyone else.

thanks for the question.

Just thought I'd let you guys know. Our tribal council is meeting on Thursday afternoon. Rob Port and the Dakota Beacon are on the agenda. It is proposed that Rob Port be banned from entering the reservation and that the Dakota Beacon retract the publication of the "Appalling" article and publicly announce error.
copies of the request for retraction will be sent to Conrad, Dorgan, Pomeroy, Hoeven, and all other tribes in North Dakota. Should be an interesting afternoon. They are holding the meeting in the Sprung Structure at the tribal complex. Large building to accommodate the many concerned members.

I'll let you all know the results when the meeting is over.

Did you ever find out exactly what he was doing on the reservation? He was somewhat vague about that in his posts.

"On the surface, selling arms to a country that sponsors terrorism, of course, clearly, you'd have to argue it's wrong, but it's the exception sometimes that proves the rule." - George Bush on Good Morning America.

11/11/82
"It would be a user fee" - President Reagan explaining why his proposed five-cent-a-gallon gasoline tax would not be a tax at all

10/21/88
"If I'm elected President, if I'm remembered for anything, it would be this: a complete and total ban on chemical weapons. Their destruction forever. That's my solemn mission." - George Bush, who cast several tie-breaking votes in the Senate to resume production of nerve gas.

“The very word 'secrecy' is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. ”

I wondered that too.
After all, he's done the research for his article in not 1 hour, not 2 hours - not 14 hours, but in a magical 15 hours as he proudly announces...

Window peeping?

Looking at The Dakota Beacon - it looks kinda like a lame right leaning rag, judging from the content. Rob Port is one of the staff. The paper sure brags up his RW political blog. Seems like shills to me.

I see they even use out of state right wingers for their content: David Strom, from the crazy minnesota taxpayers league, if I am not mistaken.

(At least he used to be years ago, I suppose its possible he's moved to North Dakota since I was familiar with him a long time ago).

Well, Outback. It appears the Turtle Mountain Tribal Council will be passing a resolution tommorrow concerning Rob Port and the Dakota Beacon - Steve Cates. Should be interesting, I'll keep you posted.

Steve Cates used to do a guest op-ed for the Bismarck Tribune. If memory serves me correctly, he wrote a column that got under the skin of a lot of people. They haven't carried his column since then. His specialty was disregarding facts.

Good work.
Sounds like you have a forum to get the word out. It sure wouldn't have happened via the
Dakota Beacon, from my somewhat limited read of their agenda. To me, they tend right wing, ideologically.

Certainly Rob Port's page doesn't hold too much truck with intellectual inquiry & honest fairness.

How did this guy come to spending his 15 hours on the Rez to begin with?

It becomes apparent he was the local newspaper boy for the Rez at one time - must be what he was referring to in his opinion piece when talking about deliveries & his earlier experiences.

Is there an online version of some of these pubs? Copy us with a synopsis of the result, if not.

Really I am having a hard time finding it on INDIANZ.COM could you post a link?
Again I am taking it from your words here. If that was the case it would have a link or a blurb written on it.

What are you talking about, I simply asked you if you have a link, you made it sound as if these publications and web pages were taking up your cause, I couldn't anything on this subject in these places and you get defensive. SIMPLE QUESTION; DO YOU HAVE LINKS TO the information you have posted. Ussually people post links when they are making a case for their cause. So do you want to post them? Simple question.

Sorry I was away for a while. My computer was down. Needed the rest, anyway. The reaction to the tribal resolution has been interesting, to say the least. Rob and Steve have not received their official notices, yet. I don't really know what the stall is. Will check tommorrow with the Tribal Secretary.

Response has been pretty heavy in the Indian blogs. Hopefully, things will pick up and Rob and Steve will finally realize how wrong they really are! Now, an idiot, blog name likwidshoe, is posting another disingenuous thread about "Nitwittery Indians" at the SayAnythingHurtfulAboutIndiansYouPossiblyCanBlog site. They just keep getting worse and worse! My only hope is the non-Indian community in North Dakota gets involved and helps North Dakota Indians more. More involvement, from all groups in North Dakota, relative to positive discussion about the issues will only help. This is not only an Indian v. Rob Port and Steve Cates issues, this is a North Dakota issue!

Anyway, back to some other blogs. Solidarity! Peace! Love! rolleyes.gif Andy Lavrerdure

Well, the beat goes on. Now they're talking about Rob on Fox. What's next, Houston's Michael Berry and Rob Port doing a show together with Rush? Should be interesting, at any rate.

Rob is now playing his victim card. Apparently, it's a free speech issue now. I just want to clarify to each of you that it is not a free speech issue. Our tribe does not restrict free speech, doesn't need to. Rob is free to say anything he wants. When a person goes into a bar, acts a fool, breaks things or pisses off other customers, what happens? That person gets 86'd. When a person goes into a store, shoplifts and gets caught, what happens? That person is not allowed in that store anymore. Same reasoning.

Our tribal people (Turtle Mountains, and many others) have used banishment for countless years. Our people banished unsavory characters before any non-Indian ever entered our territory. We have banishment written into our tribal constitution. Rob implies, and I guess the reporters are believing his story line, that exclusion and banishment have only been practiced by the Turtle Mountain Tribe for only a couple of years. Untrue. Our tribe has banished many people, Indian and non-Indian alike. The Exclusion ordinance he refers to has only been in effect for a couple of years now, and was adopted by the tribe to deal with the meth crisis that our tribe currently faces.

I've been trying to attach a copy of the resolution, but the system is having a time. I will attach one later.

Anyway, keep the faith. Solidarity. dry.gif Andy
